It all started early Wednesday morning when five bow hunters arrived at Moretla Safaris for a weekend that no one would ever forget.
Upon a very early arrival , as the sun was just rising, everyone said no to coffee and unpacking, as they were just eager to get out in the veld and make every second count. We were quite impressed with these guys on the shooting range! Their skills were impressive as they were bulls eye on every target! We were excited!
Once everyone was dropped off it wasn’t even an half an hour and the first Impala ram was down! He didn’t stand a chance as it was a perfect shot placement with a Rage Broad-head. He ran a mere 50m.
Later that day we received a phone call telling us we need to come out as the hunter took a shot on an excellent Eland cow. She had a bit more stamina in her but with Lulu, our tracking dog in training, on her trail, we found her in thickest of bushes in no time.
After the days hunt, everyone was picked up and we headed back to the camp to help unpack and relax, whilst the day’s events were discussed around a big camp fire with magical 1kg T-bone steaks being prepared. After dinner it was an early night and the next day at sun up, everyone met to discuss the plan for the day over fresh coffee and rusks.
Day 2 was even more exciting with two warthogs taken and a Eland bull! All three animals didn’t make it very far with the furthest only around 70m.
Day 3 another Eland bull was taken and a shot taken on a Bless buck. Unfortunately the Bless buck got away as the shot was a bit high and with no clear blood trail we couldn’t effectively pursue. Although a negative, this did not stop us as they still wanted to harvest more trophies. We vowed to search the Bless buck on our own, and they were free to proceed. On to the next challenge...
Day 4 one of the hunters took down another Eland bull and another hunter an Impala ewe. It was an exceptional weekend with every hunter harvesting at least one animal and one extremely happy hunter taking down 3!
Everybody was very happy and will definitely be returning next year for a new adventure which will write its own story...
