This year I was very blessed to start hunting early in January.

In the first week i took a monster 39&1/2” Buffalo, dressing out 381kg, after 120mm of rain, countless lost spoor and billions of tics.

My .416 Ruger Hawkeye Alaskan with a 400gr Dzombo solid ankered him for good after 3 days of tracking. This was the first bull I didn’t drop with my faithful Gibbs .450-400 3&1/4”

A week later I hunted a nice Zululand Impala and young kudu for meat in a barter agreement. The kudu had 2 SG pellets lodges in his back and arm, but was in prestine condition. As it was a headshot I didn’t take photos.

This last weekend I went to Ladysmith on invitation to hunt a free-range kudu on a cattle and pivot farm of roughly 7000Ha. We bumped a heard of twelve bulls starting the rutt, and I took the oldest.

I feel incredibly privileged to have started the year like this.

Rifles used:
Buff - .450-400 3&1/4” and .416 Ruger Alaskan topped with Swarovski 1-6x24 firing 400gr Dzombo monolithics.
All other game .375 Ruger Alaskan with 300gr Woodleigh PPs topped with a Swaro Habicht 2,5-10x40.

Now that’s the way to get the year started off right. Congrats.

Congratulations @Dewald!!! Told you to shoot a bull if you saw one! Impala wasn’t enough ;)

You are fortunate.
Congratulations on getting some nice trophies.
Hell of a month.

Great way to start the year, Congrats
Bruce

Congratulations on a stud Kudu, Dewald! You can be very proud of your animals. Can't wait to see what else is installed for the rest of the year.

Well done, will be hard to beat tgst for tge rest of the year.

Congratulations! Great start of the new year!! Thank you for sharing! :giggle: (y)

Nice job

Dewald, that Gibbs of yours is beautiful, I can never see enough of it. S&O Rivonia had some brass a little while back, may still have it.

NICE start to the year!

Congrats, a great bull :D Cheers:

Chopped up the whole thing as I kept hitting the 240 character limit...
Found out the trigger word in the end... It was muzzle or velocity. dropped them and it posted.:)

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS FOR MY RIFLE, ALWAYS APPROACH A NEW LOAD CAUTIOUSLY!!*
Rifle is a Pierce long action, 32" 1:8.5 twist Swan{Au} barrel
{You will want a 1:8.5 to run the heavies but can get away with a 1:9}
Peterson .280AI brass, CCI 200 primers, 56.5gr of 4831SC, 184gr Berger Hybrid.

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.

Have twice tried to post something that your site canned as "SPAM" or some problem.. "Contact the Administrator"... Not sure why even the "Contact" button would not send my comment so you only received my query but not the content in question. I'll see if I can get it to you this way... NOPE I use a VPN and perhaps that is causing me grief...
