Just a short time back I saw an ad in the AH Free Classifieds for a Simson Drilling in 16ga X 7x65R and am now the proud owner of this fine gun :)

First off, thanks to Mark for his patience in this transaction. USPS managed to lose the first check I sent to him and Mark was kind enough to mail it back to me once the Postal Service found it and finally delivered it, after the second check had arrived (sent via UPS that time). Also much appreciation for the assortment of 7x65R ammo he sent along with the gun.

When the gun arrived I gave it a thorough cleaning and looking over and measured the choke diameters. It turns out the right barrel is choked light modified (-.015) .647 dia and the left barrel is choked improved modified (-.025) .637 dia.
The rifle barrel is regulated perfectly to the flip up rear sight, shooting 1” above the top of the bead and almost perfectly aligned for windage. Rifle shoots dead on center of the bead at 100 yards. I shot a 1” three shot group at 50 yards with the open sights.
The rifle barrel and the right shotgun barrel are almost perfectly regulated to each other at 50 yards. The left barrel with a slug crosses and shoots about 7” to the right, but right on for elevation. No issue at all with a shotshell in the left barrel as intended, but something to bear in mind with a slug.
Chrono says average of 2675 fps with the 160 gr soft point factory loads Mark sent with the gun.
Here’s a pic of my 50 yard regulation test target with the open sights. I loaded both shotgun barrels with slugs and the rifle barrel with 160 gr soft points and fired all three, rifle barrel first then right tube and left tube last.

In my excitement I forgot to take pictures of the groups with slugs from the right barrel and the 3 shot group from the rifle barrel.
I go on an annual friends and family pig hunt, which by chance happens to be next weekend. Guess which gun I will be toting this year :D
This is the first drilling I have owned and I am enjoying reading and learning about Drillings. It is a strange new world! :ROFLMAO:
I have plans for some hunts this fall that I think will be perfect excuses to carry the Drilling. Ruffed and Blue grouse combined with black bear and deer in Idaho. Also mule deer/whitetail deer combined with Sharptails and Pheasant in Montana.
Hopefully I will have a success pic or two to share...

So happy you are enjoying the gun! The 7x65R is a real tack driver and will take down just about anything......

Nice, I've got a single shot in 7x65R and love it. I use Hornady 162 amax as the long range load and 160gr Accubonds for up close. I can get the 162 amax to 2750 fps and 2 days ago shot a red stag at 365yds with it.

I’ve been waiting to hear how these are shooting! Sounds great! Now I am missing my 12x12x243 again:cry:. You’re going to have fun with it. Be sure to work up either a 110 or 120 gr load for coyotes. I often saw some while sharptail hunting near Havre and Miles City, MT.
Keep us updated!

You definitely have a winner. My Simson .405 DR is also a shooter:

I have been researching Gun Trade Labels for my Simson take down case and have learned that though common with English doubles, they were not common with German guns. So I am accumulating information and graphics to create such a label.
When complete, I will post the label on this site in case other Simson owners are interested.

Enjoy your gun.

Dan, that is awesome! Congrats! The tradition of this Drilling taking pigs continues, one more to add to the many Wild Boars taken. Great shooting.
Thank you! I think she’s going bear hunting with me this spring :D

No fair to the pigs Dan.

I think you just point that rifle near a pig and it will find the spot! ;)

Well it definitely seems that way :ROFLMAO: Kinda like buying a fully trained hunting dog ;)

Congrats on a fine acquisition and the early Success on that pig;)

Nice hog and a great way to christen your new rifle.
Feral hogs were the first game taken with both my double rifles and it was FUN!
