I just put this rifle together but another build has peaked my interest, so I figured I’d test the waters.

This rifle started out as a Savage Model 11 Lightweight Hunter in 260 Rem. I used it for a few years and killed a few deer with it. I recently sent the barreled action to Shaw Custom Barrels to have them rebarrel the action to 7mm-08. They did a fantastic job, fit and finish is great.

The barrel is 22 inches in their #2.5 contour with helical fluting and a 11 degree crown. It’s got a 1-9.5” twist rate.

I installed Warne bases and put the barreled action into a Bell and Carlson M40 stock. I have not bedded the action yet. The rifle weighs 7 lbs 5 oz according to my scale. The triggers breaks right at 3 lbs.

Shaw fired a test round to check for function but I have not shot the rifle since it has been rebarreled. I plan to shoot it and do barrel break in once the weather gets better this spring but figured I’d post it for sale in the meantime. I’m asking $1100 shipped if your FFL will accept from an individual, otherwise add $75 for sending through my FFL. This is posted elsewhere.

Here’s some pics, let me know if you have any questions. Thanks.

Seems like a lot of gun for the money. A good weight for that caliber. Not heavy but not lightweight either.

Would also be willing to trade. I’m mostly interested in Ruger Hawkeye’s or Ruger No. 1’s. But the worst I could say is no thanks. Let me know!

Great deal. Wish I was in the market. I bet she shoots great.

bummer. you'd have had me with a 9 twist

not all 175s will stabilize in a 9.5, which is my chief gripe with my LH Savage 280AI.

Yeah I understand. My plan was to be able to stabilize up to 160’s and focus mostly on 140-150’s. I think the 7mm-08 is best suited when using the 160’s and lighter bullets.

Really looking for something for my daughter. I'm a lefty.

Just throwing all this out there

I'm about convinced that 175 gr 7mm is the most perfect bullet available for all but dangerous game.

Sectional density: .310
BC: except for TSX (.41) and North Fork (.446), all of the hunting bullets are between about .46 and .52

So even at modest MV of 2500 fps, any of those bullets are still at 2k+ fps and 1500 ft lbs out to 300 yards at sea level.

Apparently a lot of guys subscribe to this theory. Other than Hornady and Nosler ABLR, nobody has any 175 gr bullets in stock, at least nowhere I can find

Perhaps if you dialed it in and showed the groups. That might sway someone.
