How many people here are actively or casually working towards the World Hunting Awards from SCI? Or perhaps an equivalent or alternative?

I have been working towards my African 29 and along the way, I discovered that I am already qualified for the first pinnacle in the SCI Pinnacle of Achievement, with 7 inner circles completed so far via archery only so excluding my lone rifle hunt, an elephant. I need to submit the trophies into the record book to make them official and then decide if I want to pay for the trophy and plaques.

My current progress is:
Inner Circles - 7 So far, will likely add 4 to 6 more in August (Animals of Africa (Bow), Ring-horned Antelopes of Africa (Bow), Desert Game of the World, Pygmy Antelope of Africa, Wild Pigs and Peccaries of the World, Predators of the World)
Silver: Top Ten Award
Bronze: Hunting Achievement Award, Wild Oxen of the World, Spiral-horned Antelopes of Africa (Bow)
Copper: Global Hunting Award, Animals of Asia, Gazelles of the World

Milestones:
African 29 (12) -Won't complete but will progress greatly this August
DG of Africa (2 w/Bow)
Big Five (2 w/Bow)
Cats of the World (1) - Expect to complete this milestone in August

I was wondering if there is a large contingent of people pursuing those or if that is a small portion of the people on here. I have been looking at the lists more and more and find myself looking to book hunts in Europe and Australia in the near future, as well as possibly going to South America.

Three questions spring to mind:
1. Am I crazy?
2. Should I register and buy the plaques/trophies from SCI?
3. Was Africa my gateway drug into hunting around the globe?

Well done on the Bowhunting efforts there !

yes most likely are crazy lol

if you have plenty of money & the time yes have a go if that makes you happy !

I guided many of the hunters going for those awards & the Malek Award for the South Pacfic on some of the tricker animals free range Sambar Sika & even White Tail down south, it is a long & twisted road some times !

Yeah, the Malek award is crazy, since it goes by accumulated SCI score with only the top score being awarded each year, making it virtually impossible for a bow hunter to get it if there are any eligible rifle hunters nominated.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
