A busy morning on my pond. Had to wait until ice was gone and wind wasn't blowing 40mph. These buggers have already taken out over a hundred trees so it was time to get rid of them.

Fill in the story K-man, how'd you manage to get them?

With three of them going at it you are lucky not to be living on open prairie by now.

Well i guess you would call it spot and stalk. The first one was by the opposite bank at 225 yds and the closest gun was my .300 win mag. It is a very small moving target the top of their heads while swimming. The other two were at sunrise on the closest bank at about 20 -25 yards with my .223. I don't normally get them out for pictures but since i had time and they were close to the bank it was simple. Needed to pose them so you didn't see what was left of the top of the head

I was fishing for bass once when I hooked one with a topwater lure..........it was pretty exciting there for a few moments till I cut the line.

You are correct. Trees are a precious commodity here in the open prairie, plus this is a flood control pond so no clogging the drain.

Glad you got them. They can make a big mess.

Congrats!

NICE BEAVER!

Hornady DGX?

:A Outta:

Actually my .223 ammo is hornady 50 grn. I don't have to worry about a charge from a beaver or coyote...

And just so people don't think I hate everything Hornady.... I did order a couple of bullet heads myself just last night.

Many many years ago I had a ranch in East Texas with Honey Grove Creek down the middle. The beavers would just show up overnight, dam it up and flood my hay field. I’d have to higher a guy to come in and dynamite it because I couldn’t get the tractor through the muddy field to clear it. Never got to shoot one. They hide really well.

Good job getting 3!

In excess of 50 yrs ago my dad and his buddy raised beaver. At the high point we had around 365. I spent several years feeding and cleaning their pens. Some got pretty friendly. Others not so much. Can still see a scar from one of my bites from a beaver. Moderately intelligent and somewhat vocal animals. We had them for perhaps 3-5 years. Been a long time ago.......
In the wrong place they can do a bit of damage.

Good job! They are terrible especially in West Texas where there are few trees.

Job well done.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
