Hey guys I just wanted to post this
.

So about a month ago i went and got myself a new rifle 1st brand new rifle for me too. Since sadly didn't really have a good .375h&h choice I went with the more classic 9.3x62.
Plan is for thus rifle to be my one do it all for now (i say for now beacause another one is definetly coming in at some point). So far it sadly didn't take anything but hopefully soon will. Plan is for it to go to Africa with me when the time comes and maybe also assist me in taking a buff since I obow some places allow a 9.3 and I did find some 350grain bullets locally though right now I'm using 286grain. I will post as soon as I get something with it for now here is the rifle

Very nice. The 286 gr will work well on buffalo if it is a good bullet (A-Frame, TBBC, etc).

Right now I use Hornady interlocks since they are the cheapest here(3€per bullet in croatia)apart from PPU which don't have a great reputation at least from what I heard. Though for Africa I will probably up to norma or other more premium offerings but for boar and roedeer I don't really need super good ammo since they always fell from my 8x57 they should fall even better from 9.3

And the rifle is probably getting a barrel band and a few more additions to make it more of a safari rifle

So far on the range when it was sighted in hole in hole. Perfection just gotta get something in front of it to see how good of a takedown it does

Lots of guys in your part of the world swear by RWS.

Not sure if there would be any shipping issues from RSA to Croatia, but you should be able to get Rhino bullets for a decent price, too. Same with Peregrine, lots of folks swear by them.

You should be able to get 286 gr North Forks semi-spitzer solid shank in Croatia.

I'm taking my 9.3x62 to RSA next August. I have a good load with Norma Oryx, but I have been *strongly* encouraged to work up loads with Swift/Barnes/North Fork if I really want to take a buffalo.

Yeah RWS is popular in general here but they are costly I think almost double of the hornady or at least around 5€ iirc.

Shipping if you mean ammo it could be a hassle I don't think the croatian post does that type of delivery

Bit deffinetly would look into either handloading or seeing if someone can get me a good solid or swift for buff when the time comes

Thanks for the nice rifle part guys. I thought what better combo than a classic German rifle in a classic German safari caliber. Just need a barrel band to make it proper safari gotta ask my gunsmith if he has some he should and if not the internet it is

Oh. I was talking about reloading components. So accustomed to a lot of guys here rolling their own, just didn't think about it. I have 2 boxes of hornady 286 gr sitting on my loading bench right now, along with 4 boxes of swift, 1 box or norma, and about a box and a half of speer.

I'm kinda feeling like I don't have enough 9.3 bullets, so I'm probably going to order some Hammer 258 gr in the next week or so.

BTW, I have two 9.3x62 to load for, mine, and my son's Sauer 100

Vala, nice rifle. Good to see a decent set of open sights on that barrel.

Hi Danchy,

I think the scope on your rifle deserves a mention. Seems to be a Kahles Helia C 2,5-10x50. I have had one and have today the same in 1,5-6x42. To me, GREAT SCOPES!!! Unmatched optics, even compared with the other 3, or 4 tops ones (L, S&B, S and Z).
Good rifle/scope combo.

Best

Thank you and almost correct 3-12x56

Agreed great scope and amazing optics tho I might need to give it a service I had trouble sighting it in went through half a box damnit and according to my gunsmith there is a guy doing that here and it could be a good thing

I will speak about subjective things caliber related. Exact ballistics, mathematics, velocities, bullet construction, foot pounds, penetration and physics are well known and digested on the forum.

This may include bigger game in European hunting, or large plains game or could be as well for DG, and my personal perception of calibers.

So, when I was stalking zebra, (300 HH) and took final aim, somehow 300 HH seamed too small, and hartmann zebra stallion looked so big, at 80 meters through the scope. At that moment I wanted something bigger.

When I shot wildebeest blue (300 HH) lung heart shot, he run 100 meters, and dropped, and while I was looking the dust behind him running away, I was thinking again 300 is too small. This is big animal
I should have taken bigger gun!

When I shot black wildebeest in a same same manner (375 hh) he run 80-100 meters and dropped, and 375 hh again seamed too small. When he started running, I was stupidly wondering why he was not dropping? I should have taken bigger gun!

When I shot young management eland for camp meat (375 hh) broadside pass through heart, lung, and he made few steps, and looked at me in surprise, without even flinching, I though 375 is nothing, he was supposed to drop on the spot! I need bigger gun!
And then I took a second shot, although unnecessary.

All above shots have been to proper place.

I could go on, and on. Somehow, to me the gun always looks too small when I face large prey.
At that moment before sending a bullet, I sincerely want something bigger in the hand, and after sending the shot I always learn my next lesson in modesty.

Point being, for big animals, it really needs to be large caliber.
To me, when facing a large animal, every of those calibers I mentioned always looked too small.

Keep in mind these words when facing your first buffalo.

No doubt that 9.3 can kill buffalo, but somehow I am sure, to you it will seam like 22, when your first buffalo after getting shot, disappears in next bush.
What next?

In such moments, Robert Ruarks famous philosophy, make sure to bring enough gun, comes to mind!

I have 375 HH, and after I take that first shot on my first buffalo, you bet you know what I will be thinking...
I should have gotten 416 at least! I can only imagine dry mouth, swallowing saliva, and turning to face PH for his reaction...

Good hunting, my friend and dont worry, 9.3 will drop boars and deer like hammer in our heck of woods, not to mention kudu, impala, warthog, zebra and others

Above is just my African talk....
Congrats on this purchase of very good looking rifle!

Thanks and I bet. Still remember my first roedeer and my 8x57 and it runnin off around 20 meters and dropping and me cussing the gun and the deer and myself thinking fuck i done fucked up. Last thing the 8x57 took down before it was sold was a sow that went down immediatley right through the heart while running

As for the buff imma wait till you come back with the report unless fate takes us there together. Who knows what will hapoen? But a 375h&h or larger aren't off the table that's for sure

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
