I'm heading over to Zambia in April to do some hunting, fishing and sight seeing. Sandals are my go to foot wear in warm weather but I don't usually walk long distances or spend all day in them. I normally wear thongs/flip flops but after walking about 25km one day last summer in them my feet were killing me. Does anyone have any good recommendations for a good buckle or velcro type sandal that are good for walking in?

Cabelas sells the Teva Duster Sandals, I own a couple of pair. They are some of the best I have found for comfort and durability. If you are going into Livingston though I would not wear sandals for the life of me. Victoria falls yes, in town Hell NO. Too much broken glass and just metal, yes metal schards sticking out of the ground. Hope this helps.

I'm a big fan of sandals myself. With wool socks. I like Mephistos very much.

 Any German blood, Bert ? Where I come from, sandals AND socks is a serious German habit. I do all my hunting in 'vellies' and no socks.

Some German blood way back. My best friend in medical school and internship was a German guy and I got to hear about the manifest superiority of sandals with socks every day for 6 years. I still think the reason our intramural volleyball team did so well is that the opposition spent way too much time staring at his footwear.

When I was in private practice in Florida, a patient who ran a shoe store gave me a pair of sandals as a thank you gift and I was convinced.

Now, I don't hunt in them, at least not in Africa. Grass seeds, etc make an unholy mess out of unprotected wool socks.

Funny enough, when my last pair of sandals wore out, I didn't replace them because I would soon be spending a week in Germany and I figured it was the land of sandals. Lo and behold, I couldn't find a decent pair and ended up getting some in Namibia.

You could always get something there!

Jerome, I forgot about the Dunlop sandals, where was my head

35bore, thanks for the suggestion. Teva has quite a line of sandal/shoe hybrids and regular sandals. I also forgot about the Dunlop sandal, another great suggestion. Perhaps I'll fashion myself a set next time I get new tires. I'm not much of one for socks and sandals ha ha. I don't like wearing socks at the best of times.

You might want to look at Keen sandals. They have a protective rubber toe-cap, are waterproof and very comfortable. I have a couple pairs, one which I have had for years, with a lot of miles on them and they are still like new...
