SA May 2013 Hunt & What Else To Do??

I have a hunt booked for April 30 thru May 11 2013 for my daughter(age 21) and myself in the Port Elizabeth area . This will be my only trip to Africa due to age/health and limited pension income. Because of this I would prefer to not just fly in-shoot animals-fly out. I would like to spend a day or 2-3 sightseeing if possible. Is this possible with our rifles in country? Is it done by others very often? Would it be best to do so before the hunt thus helping with any jet-lag or after the hunt be best? Is it worth doing? Anything to see and if so what? I am looking to get a feel etc of the country while I am there or best not?? Rent a car or get guided trips. Both the Joberg and Port Elizabeth areas we will be in on planes.

Any help from those who have been there and if you have done any sightseeing etc would be very helpfull before I get plane tickets. I plan to get our plane tickets in the next few weeks.

Talk to your outfitter ! He would give you good advice ! I would strongly discourage you to rent a vehichle espicially if you want to
travel with your guns. Good luck on your trip ! I would suggest a paid guide either through the outfitter or recommended by someone !

Is it worth doing? YES.
If you are not likely to be able to go back you better do some looking around and take pictures of everything.

Anything to see? That is so big a question I can not even begin to answer it.

PE and the Easter/Western Cape will show you lots of possibilities.
Elephant Parks, Lions, Sharks, Penguins, Mountains and Ocean or two, etc.

Joburg is a big city and there are plenty of things to see but not exactly the place for a rookie to explore alone.

IF you are comfortable driving on the other side of the road, (Left Side) Rent a car and go where you please.
B&B's are everywhere, I mean everywhere.

Touring before hand will allow you to get into the time zone and get rid of the jet lag for the hunt. It will also allow you to let your rifles or baggage catch up. (not the biggest consideration)

Yes, it is possible to store your rifles and then tour.
You can leave your rifles with your PH/Outfitter, if you are staying in the general area.
We used a courier service that held them for several weeks while we toured after the safari and then placed them in out hands at the Joburg Airport before departure.

Knysna is nice, a couple of neat parks. The town is a bit like Taos on the arts side. You might want to climb the hill to Oodsthorn, the caves are a nice visit. If you want to go to Cape Town area consider Stellenbosch, great old wine estates. I would not be scared off by the left hand driving, really does not take long to get used to. I am not sure if the Union Train still runs from PE to CT, a steam engine trip. I hear that the Kysna local one is no longer.

I like the idea of touring before, usually takes three days to beat the lag.

X2. Your Outfitter lives right there, he will know local sights as well as anyone.
