Both Delta and American Airlines specifically state in their checked baggage information that firearm and bow cases are accepted as checked baggage subject to the usual 50lb weight limit. Both airlines also specifically state that the usual size limit of 62 inches (Length +Width+Depth) is changed to 102 inches for firearm and bow cases. United Airlines does state that firearm and bow cases are accepted as checked baggage with the usual 50lb weight limit however United does not make any comment regarding any allowance beyond their standard 62 inch size limit. My question is whether anyone on this website when flying on United Airlines has been charged for an oversize firearm or bow case that met the weight limit?

I flew United in 2021 with a Pelican Storm iM3300. It was under the weight limit an there were no additional charges for oversized baggage.

I have flown United with TuffPac. No issues. Delta with Pelican no issues. Qatar with both Pelican and TuffPac no issues. No overage charges ever.

I've flown delta and united with a pelican case a couple times, never any oversized charges. I was worried before my first trip but everything went smoothly. Hope this helps.

I've never seen a ticket agent get out a measuring tape except to measure a box or something weird. They never measure a gun case. AA, Delta, Qatar, Air France, or SAA back in the day.
