Reloading Bench

@franzfmdavis posted pics of his bench in a thread on here just recently. Below is a link to the bench he ordered from Menards. He changed out the top to I believe a thicker single piece of wood versus what I think is particle board.

You can see his bench in this thread:

How big are you looking for and what’s your budget?

When I boght my house in 1978, I built this reloading bench full length along one wall.

It's got 4x4 legs and the top is 2x4 or 2x6 boards laid flat, then covered them with 1/2" high density particleboard, and topped with a low nap carpet.

On sale this weekend at Harbor Frieght. Requires assembly, is pretty heavy and easy to screw or bold things to. Intended as a wood working bench with a wood vice. @Just Gina likes it so much she got one for her craft room.

A reloading bench can be as personal as a person wants. You can build it yourself or purchase a work bench from a number of suppliers.

I have tried sitting down at my bench to load shells and found that I just don't like sitting, I am moving quite a bit while loading the rounds so I have found that a plain old work bench works just fine. Some like to sit down while loading and that is fine as long as they find something that works for them.

Harbor Freight has a couple that would work quite well for a loading bench, you can modify them as you see fit. I picked up the larger bench a few years ago and installed some casters on the bottom of the legs so that I can roll it around my garage. It's a tool/work bench and not my loading bench. I picked up a Sears work bench over 40 years ago to use as my loading bench.

Bought this from Sears. Can still get it at Lowes. Bullets, dies, cases, tool on the left side, powder and bigger stuff on the right.

We recently downsized after I retired and moved into a new house. My old bench was a tank but just was too large for my new space as it was 12 feet in length and 38 inches deep. It doubled as a workbench on one end and my reloading bench in the other.

Just last week I bought the below bench from Menards as it was on sale for $269 dollars.

I put it together and got it set into place. I also mounted my cabinets, two on each side of it and that is where I keep my brass, powders, bullets and dies.
I don’t have the press etc mounted yet but will soon. I looked at a lot of benches before making the decision to buy this one. The fact that it is very sturdy and has electrical outlets built into it makes it very nice. The price is very good on them as well.

What ever style of bench you "shoot" for, be certain it has plenty of mass, and enough bench top wood for the through bolts for your press. If you get a sticky case in a die and your bench or bench top flex's up with your upstroke you will encounter a miserable stuck case situation. Your dies will also not do their job properly if your bench moves with the upstroke.

If you consider a ready made bench, or a home depot type rolling tool chest with wooden bench top, add weight with bags of lead shot, or store lots of bullets on the bottom to give it plenty of mass.

Everyone on 3/17 my new office/trophy room starts. I will keep everyone posted. I just ordered @ActionBob reloading table for the new room…incredible deal!!! I am having 3/4 inch plywood installed on every wall to give me the freedom to put my animals anywhere. I have three large African pendent lights going in the room.

@ActionBob forgive my ignorance, what are the four wood pegs for please? I will be screwing down my powder filler and my checker press…are these for those ?

The HF work bench is designed as a wood working bench. The wood dowels are to hold pieces of wood on the top of the bench so that it doesn't move as you are working on it, mainly sanding

Morning Rob, Any feeling for how the 300 H&H shoots? How's the barrel condition?

Hello. I see you hunted with Sampie recently. If you don't mind me asking, where did you hunt with him? Zim or SA? And was it with a bow? What did you hunt?

I am possibly going to book with him soon.
Currently doing a load development on a .404 Jeffrey... it's always surprising to load .423 caliber bullets into a .404 caliber rifle. But we love it when we get 400 Gr North Fork SS bullets to 2300 FPS, those should hammer down on buffalo. Next up are the Cutting Edge solids and then Raptors... load 200 rounds of ammo for the customer and on to the next gun!
