Recommendations for Pronghorn outfitter

They are managing numbers of people in addition to managing numbers of animals taken. We can’t all hunt our favorite unit every year. . .View attachment 724479

Request your copy of these publications and it will give you information on guides and outfitters, hunter and trophies of the year and more information. It will be invaluable if you are seeking an outfitter.
My picture may or may not be in that pamphlet ha

Thanks for all the info. I’m interested in coming down with my 9 year old next year. He wants to go on a hunt with me even though he’s not old enough to hunt himself yet.

I want to get another pronghorn, but the real priority is making sure my son enjoys himself. With the priority being a high success rate hunt and accommodating a youngster would this change anyone’s recommendations?

Any recommendations for Montana pronghorn?

I killed my first deer at 9. I know it depends on the state and child, but starting early is great where legal

Yep, my 11 yo got his first deer this year. They just changed the regulations here so that 10 yo can hunt big game now with an adult. My understanding is that it is 12 in Wyoming, or at least turning 12 by the end of the calendar year they will be hunting in.

So, unfortunately, my 8 yo is out of luck for a couple more years though he’s excited to go with me.

What is the average distance people are taking their shots at for pronghorn?
11 animals, 3 longest shots were 340, 300, 250, the other 8 all between 110 - 200. We always stalk closer when feasible.

If you draw a tag in an area with a reasonable amount of public land I don’t know why you would need an outfitter. I killed good bucks all nine years I lived in Wyoming DIY. I doubt that there is a hunt better suited to DIY than public land antelope.

Certainly a thought, though I’m traveling from Alberta so want to be able to focus on enjoying the hunt with my son after 15+ h drive. Think a good guide and outfitter will be worth the expense.

I’ve got 4 points in WY. Any suggestions for area or outfitter with that in mind or should I keep buying points?

I feel like alot of people are just like I know how it works scew everyone else.
How do you think those people who’ve been applying for 15-20 years or even longer learned how it works? It wasn’t the internet ….

I’m with @Muskox each state puts out a Hunting and Fishing guide, and they have done so for years. Each of those paper pamphlets lists all the different rules/statutes for the state and special rules and boundaries for the units, plus phone numbers for the biologists and game wardens. Additionally they include a breakdown of their draw rules/regulations, dates on when/how to apply, and buy preference points. You can also call and speak with an outfitter in an area you’re interested in hunting and see what the process is, how many points it takes to draw, etc.

I get asked by dozens and dozens of people each year (no exaggeration it’s probably well over 100 now) “what states should I apply in?”, “what’s the draw process like for this state?”, “I’ve got this many points what unit should I apply for?”, “what unit did you kill that in?”, “how many points do I need for that unit?”, etc. No joke, I’ve already had a couple texts/calls this year. Moving forward, I might start charging to cover my time.

That said I’m at a point where I can draw most any Antelope tag in Wyoming. For me it’s a matter of waiting for the herd to rebound a little more, getting a couple years of mild winters and the right amount of moisture + not having other hunts on the books. I’ll continue to buy a point and hedge against point creep, and if I want to go shoot a speed goat I’ll go to a unit that’s mostly private, doesn’t sell out on licenses and hunt a buddy’s ranch for 14-16” goats.

Jerome, do you think my last post in rough camping must maybe shift as an article?

Good afternoon,

I'm trying to get in contact with Mr Butch Searcy. I have the opportunity to buy one of his rifles chambered in 577 nitro Express however the seller does not have any of the paperwork with the information about what ammunition or bullet weight was used to regulate it. I know he is not making firearms anymore but I wanted to reach out after seeing one of your post about him.

Hi - the only (best) method of sending you the .375/06IMP data is with photographing my book notes. My camera died so the only way I can do it is with my phone. To do that, I would need your e-mail address, as this
new Android phone is too complicated to upload to my desk computer, which would be easier and to down-grade, reduce the file sizes.
Best wishes
Daryl
