I am selling one of my first edition copies of the Man-Eaters of Tsavo by Col J.H. Patterson. This is the harrowing tale of his hunting of the man eating lions that were terrorizing the work crews on Britain’s Uganda railway in the heart of Kenya in 1898. This is a classic story and was also featured in the motion picture The Ghost in the Darkness starring Michael Douglas and Val Kilmer. If you have not seen the movie or read this book, you should!

This copy of the book is a very complete first edition copy printed in 1907 and is in good condition showing some wear to the binding and covers. It also features some very cool British provenance stamps and an inscription from April 1908 within the front cover.

The price is $125 + $8 shipping within the US for this rare and hard to find book. I can accept payment via Paypal (+3.5%) or via Money Order. Please let me know if I can answer any questions. Thanks!

Durn ya, I just got the kitchen pass to get this! Enjoy it Dave.

Great! I thought someone here would enjoy this. Dave, I will send you a PM now. Thanks!

@PHOENIX PHIL That movie has become one of my wife's favourites so this will be a Christmas present for her. I will bring her by the booth at SCI and if you talk nice she might let you borrow it, that way you will have to come down to southern AZ and can go out and burn some gunpowder in my doubles.

And if I talk nice she might let me read it:D

Wow, that didn't take very long! Are you sure, a new V C didn't come with it? Haven't read the book, but saw the movie with Val Kilmer and Michael Douglas, and it was great!

@PHOENIX PHIL , you had better jump on that deal especially if Dave is paying for the ammo!

Have the movie recorded on my DVR. It's a stand by for when nothing else is on.

Congrats @AZDAVE! I was going to jump on this offer too - darn time zone differences in korea

I had two. Now I have just one.

I have duplicates of a few of the more rare first edition trophy room type books that I have picked up over the years. I really need to sell my extras of the books and other gun parts, etc to to clean out some of the clutter if I can just make myself do it. :)

Wow, 1st edition, very nice! Congrats Dave on the buy

yeah probably a common affliction me thinks :E Big Grin:

Vette,

One question please for my education: why does a "first edition" have both the date of the "first edition" and a "reprinted date" listed? To a layman it seems like when they printed the first edition they wouldn't have known at what date it was going to be reprinted? I realize that it is only one month later and an exact reprint of the first edition, but it seems like it would effect the value etc. I have just begun collecting these classic books and this information would be helpful.

If the others are of first editions in the style that Dave just bought, post them, they will most likely sell also!
