Looking at 2 rangefinders- a Vortex Crossfire HD 1400 and a Leupold RX-1400i. Does anyone have any firsthand experience or knowledge of either of these rangefinders. Will be using the rangefinder for hunting and golfing. Tks

I looked at the Leupold RX-1400 when I was buying. It gets very good reviews. I ended up buying the RX-2800 as it will acquire much faster at ranges near the limit of the 1400. I also have instances where I am planning a stalk and I need to range potential shooting positions to determine their distance from the intended target. This can be well beyond the range capability of the 1400.

If your intended use keeps you under roughly 2/3s of the stated range capability of the 1400 you should be good. If you intend to push its limits, buy the 2800.

I should add, mine functions flawlessly.

What's your intended use?

You may have other/better options depending on this.

I've had a Leupold RX-800i TBR for around 7 years and it has served me well for archery, turkey and shotgun hunting. Very reliable and repeatable readings out to 400 yards +. Using it for golfing should be a "chip shot" ;). It's compact, light and the battery lasts FOREVER. Fits in a small pocket or clipped to the side of a gear (or golf) bag. Been a quality piece of kit...can't imagine they did any worse on their newer products. Leupold has always been a trusted brand.

For something beyond archery/golfing ranges, I have Leica 10x42 Geovid HD-B 3000 for rifle hunting ranging use. Much easier on the eyes for extended use while glassing vs. a monocular style RF.

Well folks the hunt is over. I just purchased a Sig Kilo1000. I think it will provide the performance and durability that I am looking for both hunting and golfing.

I've had a Bushnell Elite 1500 since they were first introduced which was about 20-25 yrs. ago. I has been very accurate and dependable, but I realize every thing has self life. I was time to upgrade.

Thank every one for your input and comments.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
