My 9.3x62 build is at the go & shoot it stage, it looks ok, may fiddle with bedding & re test before i rust blue& finish stock all shots at 100 meters, i fired 24 shots in about 1 hour shooting my 308 in between& that was about enough in one session recoil from bench is not excessive but makes the 308 feel like a 22. the person at the next bench happened to have a factory Ruger 77 9.3x62 he was shooting Barnes 250 grain reloads with AR2208 powder & shot a couple of 3 shot clover leafs. the bottom picture is PPU 286 grain factory ammo ,the scope is an old Leupold M8 4x

The 9.3 x 62 is an interesting round. I took the cat in my avatar with one.

Rdog, that is a good start. Once you get the action bedded and perhaps a better load worked up, you'll be very happy with the caliber. Ask Bob Nelson about possibly using CFE 223. That powder really works well for him in his 35 Whelen.

I used 61.5grs of IMR4064 withe Barnes and Accubond 250gr bullets. Both shot equally well, MOA or under. IIRC speed was about 2550, not spectacular but hits hard.
This was in a CZ 550 with 24" bbl.

Thank you for your input i have adjusted the bedding lightened the trigger & will work on the 270 grain Speer hot core load its a old cup & core bullet, its readily available, well priced & you do not need a better bullet, for pigs or red deer at 9.3 diameter Hodgdon powders are no longer imported into Australia so its better to stay with ADI or Alliant i have reloader 15 i will try it with the 270 g Speers.

After a little bedding adjustment, Lightning the trigger & slight lengthening of Oal, here are the results, 100 meters 4 shots, 270 grain Speer M8 4x Leupold,

@Shootist43
Art I don't think @rdog has much ope of getting any cfe223 as they don't import it anymore. I think I have the last 18x1# bottles in Australia stashed away .

RL 15 works good but RL 17 seems more better
@neckdeep
I think the proper terminology is more goodera not more better.
More bettera is accepted as well.
That way you can become an honary Aussie bogan.
Ha ha ha ha ha

You've got to love it when a plan comes together. Looking forward to seeing the finished product.

I looked at my 9.3x62 RL17 note's, 63 gr and 285 Privi seems about tops, shot fine in a clean gun but then bolt became sticky as the gun fouled more, around 2425 fps with really low SD's, 22" inch barrel, I would think that would put the ka wallop on any Aussie critter!!

Still testing with the 250 AB, using 66.5 gr, a compressed load, shows no signs of pressure and getting about 2610 fps, SD was about 8

Just my 2 cents worth, I would try and seat the bullets a little further out to magazine length. This way you can add a touch more powder, and you’re closer to the lands, and that may help reduce groups.

Good Morning x84958
I have read your post about Jamy Traut and your hunt in Caprivi. I am planning such a hunt for 2026, Oct with Jamy.
Just a question , because I will combine Caprivi and Panorama for PG, is the daily rate the same the week long, I mean the one for Caprivi or when in Panorama it will be a PG rate ?
thank you and congrats for your story.
Best regards
Philippe from France

Hello Doug,
I am Philippe from France and plan to go hunting Caprivi in 2026, Oct.
I have read on AH you had some time in Vic Falls after hunting. May I ask you with whom you have planned / organized the Chobe NP tour and the different visits. (with my GF we will have 4 days and 3 nights there)
Thank in advance, I will appreciate your response.
Merci
Philippe
