Tell us about the hunters you have known who have exhibited the most pure hunting ability. I mean the ones who don't need to be taken hunting, or really need a PH except for new country/or legal requirement. Folks with exceptional instincts, a high "hunting IQ"...those that teach you how to be better every time you hunt with them. Legendary hunters, if they truly fill the bill, or unknownes like my uncle Tim.

In terms of hunter/writers who have taught me the most--top of the list would be Murray Burnham (of Burnham Bros. Calls fame) in his book, "Murray Burnham's Hunting Secrets." He has probably forgotten more than most will ever know, takes for granted an inherited treasure trove of wood lore and hunting knowledge from his forebears, and can flat hack it in any situation. He once even called a lion into his lap with his game calls--just to see if it would work. HE THINKS LIKE AN ANIMAL. And he has outsmarted some huge old white tail bucks that have survived many an attempt by lesser hunters. Uncanny ability, really.

The forum is now open to the laud of bare ground puma trackers, even indigenous hunters globally, and anyone who has stood you in awe. And your favorite would be...

My good buddy Vance is one who comes to mind. He is a skillful and accomplished student of the outdoors. He developed his shooting skills as an archer, and became a very successful one. He shot competitively on the Canadian National team as a youngster, and represented Canada internationally with his archery skills. He's a professional biologist, specializing in waterfowl. And he's a very competent shot with a shotgun on waterfowl and upland birds. He prefers to get close to big game, and has shot many, many whitetail and mule deer that he's stalked to within rock throwing range. No matter if he's hunting with bow or rifle. More recently he transferred those skills to hunting elk, as a guest at our hunting camp. He has shot an elk every year for the last couple decades, using a lowly .308 Remington. He calls 100 M a long shot, not because it's far for his rifle or skills, but because he thinks he should be able to stalk closer.

I believe that my buddy Jerry is likely the most accomplished sheep hunter in Alaska. His personal tally is around thirty rams, including a number of plus forty three inch brutes. He is an excellent pilot, tough as nails, and knows sheep. His tally on big bear is no less impressive.

I have no idea the shipping cost from here to Costa Rica. I can do my research on shipping and get back with you later today.

I didn't see your request re: ship co’s. My last shipment was 2023. Quotes from SBS Logistics ($1,198), Badger Cargo ($1,184 - used them) & AHG Trophy Shippers ($1,746). AHG owner's an asshole so wouldn't have used him anyway. Eastern Cape - Houston, TX, so your mileage may vary. NEVER use Karl Human Taxidermy aka Wild Africa Taxidermy on Eastern Cape. Trophies arrived shattered with no padding/packing material.
