With my dad unable to hunt anymore my mother wanted me to start getting some of his guns cleaned up. It’s a sad day, we have not hunted in 8 or 10 years but time marches on. Here are the first two I picked up this weekend.

Pre 64 30-06 that dad bought in spearfish South Dakota in the late 50’s.
Heavy duck gun Model 12 3”magnum. He bought it as a graduate student at Southern Illinois University in the mid 50’s.

All of us will face this one day…I did with my dad. However my dad’s 30-06 had a cracked stick but I ended up replacing it. My dad is now gone but I will be using his 30-06 to take my leopard knowing he is smiling down from heaven seeing his son doing something he always dreamed of but never did

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS FOR MY RIFLE, ALWAYS APPROACH A NEW LOAD CAUTIOUSLY!!*
Rifle is a Pierce long action, 32" 1:8.5 twist Swan{Au} barrel
{You will want a 1:8.5 to run the heavies but can get away with a 1:9}
Peterson .280AI brass, CCI 200 primers, 56.5gr of 4831SC, 184gr Berger Hybrid.

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.

Have twice tried to post something that your site canned as "SPAM" or some problem.. "Contact the Administrator"... Not sure why even the "Contact" button would not send my comment so you only received my query but not the content in question. I'll see if I can get it to you this way... NOPE I use a VPN and perhaps that is causing me grief...
