I'm currently working on the details of planning a trip for next spring or fall to South Africa and the idea hit me last night that maybe I should consider going for two weeks instead of one. If I do go for two weeks I was considering using the second week to take photos, etc. Are there any sights or locations in South Africa that are a must see for photography buffs?

What part of South Africa will you be in?

The parks are very good, like Kruger.

What time of year will you be going to take in local celebrations...

What are you looking for like old buildings, gold mines, diamond mines, wildlife, ocean beach.

a little additional information would be great to guide you to things to see with out greater expense.

James,

The plan is to be in the Limpopo region of SA but this isn't to say I would be completely against making the trip to another region if it was worth it. Anything that you look at and think "that is cool" is what I would be looking for. Diamond mines would be nice, I'll bring my shovel.

We spent a few days in Etosha in Namibia. It was a great side-trip and my dad brought his 500 lb, 10-ft long lens. Not really, but it sure wasn't easy to pack around. We got some fantastic photos though. Non-park animals are usually hard to get close to. We got some great shots of mating lions, cheetah, rhino, elephant, and just about every antelope and bird in the park.

Landscapes, local villages, famous locations, etc. is what I would be looking for mostly. For animals, etc. I would probably just set my cam gear up in a blind with me while hunting.

Not much to see really in RSA. :)

Brickburn,

Any way you can retry those first few attachments? They don't seem to be working for me.

Where in SA can you see penguins?

Thanks Brickburn, very enjoyable.

Just "some mountain" in the background. :)

WOW Brickburn Thanks!
RichKn- anywhere you are you will find more than enough pictures to go around, even if it's insects and birds. The Alpine villages and trout farms of the Drakenburgs are wonderful. The tea plantations and citrus farms outside of Tzeen. The Capetown vineyards, the Garden Route. You have a lot of studying to do. That's half the fun.
