The mayor is anti-gun. This says it all, from Pennlive
Mayor Eric Papenfuse will speak at a march that will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, 2015, at 2101 N. Front St., Building 1, to remember people who have died from gun violence.
The “Orange Walk: We Can End Gun Violence” is being organized by a Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America-PA, which is celebrating its third anniversary. The march will begin at the Schools in Communities of Pennsylvania office on Front Street, Harrisburg, and continue along Front Street, stopping at the Peace Garden in Riverfront Park.
Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America-PA has invited Mayor Papenfuse to speak because of his dedication to ending gun violence in Harrisburg and in the nation.
"Mayor Papenfuse stood up to the gun lobby this year when its lawyers tried to punish Harrisburg for its common-sense gun regulations,” said Deb Marteslo, Pennsylvania Chapter Leader of Moms Demand Action. “The mayor refused to back down on public safety, he fought them in court and Harrisburg won.
“Moms Demand Action-PA is proud to walk shoulder to shoulder with such a strong leader at our Capitol Region event," Marteslo said.
Mayor Papenfuse has faced a series of legal challenges to City of Harrisburg’s gun ordinances, including those forbidding possession of guns by minors and discharging guns in city parks. Gun rights advocates also have challenged laws mandating reporting of lost or stolen guns and
prohibiting the sale or display of guns while the city is under a state of emergency.
“I am honored to be able to support Moms Demand Action and applaud its commitment to working for sensible gun laws,” said Mayor Papenfuse. “It is fitting that we take time to remember those who have died in our city and around the nation from gun violence. I once again express my sincerest sympathy to all those who are grieving for loved ones killed in acts of violence.”
People who participate in the march are asked to wear orange, which the organization says symbolizes gun safety.
As I stated earlier, it's time for the show to go elsewhere.
