Hello everyone,

I currently have a 300 & 375 h&h on 1917 actions. I was curious what other h&h cartridges were out there and came across a few I have not seen, the 244, 275, 400 & 465. I have some extra 1917 actions and was thinking it might be interesting to make a set of H&H rifles.
Does anyone have one of these?
Are there any you would add to this list?

244 H&H Magnum
275 H&H Magnum
300 H&H Magnum
375 H&H Magnum
400 H&H Magnum
465 H&H Magnum

I've got a 275 H&H magnum ( currently with my gunsmith friend) and 256H&H magnum, of which only a few hundred were made, Selous had one from mempry. Both are on Mauser actions. The 256 barrel has seen better days

Hi hperk9,3,

If you are considering ONLY H&H belted cartridges, I would select .275 H&H+400 H&H+465 H&H.
If there are other options outside H&Hs, I chose 400 J + 458 Lott.

Good luck!

I have the 300, 375, and 400 looked hard at the 275 but brass and dies are tough but doable

The 275 is one of those oddball ones, uses a .287" projectile (same as I use in my 280 nitro express) and brass was available from Norma for a while or you can just run 300 H&H brass through a FLS die then trim.

There's a reason the 300 and 375 are by far the most popular H&H calibers. I own both. I was mildly interested in 400H&H but after a lot of research I decided it was just too much of an outlier. I went with 404J instead. No regrets.

Can we see pictures of the nitro express?

The rifle? will try, there’s a couple of problems 1)I’m up my farm for the next two weeks and the rifle is in my safe in town120miles away 2) I’m am computer illiterate and can never work out how to post pictures so usually email them to people.
The 280 nitro is just the English version of the 280 Ross or the German 280Halger magnum which are just rimless 280 flanged......simple really :unsure:
And my 256 H&H looks almost identical to the 280.....

I know, it’s just rare to hear of a rifle in the wild!

I picked up the 280 N.E., the 256, the 275 and a columbian Calvary carbine from a deceased estate where the guy selling them didn’t know what they were, he also had a Vickers in 242 nitro express, but I didn’t have enough money for that

I have the 300 H&H, 375 H&H and the 400 H&H. Love them all!
