Ok how many you guys take the same animals on your second trip to SA

Been crunching numbers looking at our next trip.My son would like waterbuck,bushbuck,warthog,copper,black,white springbuck,eland.Myself looking for nyala,bushbuck,bushpig,blue wildbeast,zebra.Dont know why his list is always bigger then mine but I still have so much fun. Dam kids lol .Now the problem is neither of us can think of going and not trying for another kudu ,oryx and reg. springbuck.There are some others like black wildbeast ,red hardbeast,duiker that we want but can wait on.I have been thinking I will just set a size limit on both of us before we retake any of the animals we have already taken.I will have a budget set so if we take something not on the list another one will need to come off.So how many of you guys went with a plan and got off track retaking one you have already taken.Now if I came across a 60" kudu I think I could give one up easier.LOL I am hoping to get back twice in the next 4 to 5 year.

Mine were all different for my second trip. I went looking for different animals, however if we spotted something better than i already had it was fair game.

On my 3 trip we did take a second bush buck however a different variety, a common zebra (for my sister), bigger warthog, a nice Impala. the other were different.

I have another 2 trip in the works for 2014 and 2015 one to South Africa and Namibia again looking for some of the same and different trophy's.

At next years SCI convention i will be making arrangements on the Namibia trip to see what we can fit in.

Then after that looking to return to Tanzania for a safari.

What i do is look for different country's to see a variety of Africa.

Billc That sounds like a hell of a lot of fun better save for your Taxidermy bill to LOL. I will have a lot of those animal when I return home in June but it took me 3 trips. Good luck and have fun.

I would never hesitate to shoot something bigger on the next trip. If it trips you trigger let some lead fly. If you have regrets later, pass on it next time. There are some animals that are more appealing than others. I would have a hard time passing BIG kudu and HUGE tusked warthogs.

Well james did you take any of the same on that trip or did not come across anything better then you had.Looking at doing another country like namibia but then most of the animals would be repeats.When we do namibia oryx,springbuck and free range kudu will be on the list with mtn zebra.


Bob The next mounts will take some time to get done for sure as the bill will be much bigger then the last one.Was hoping to do one trip this year but thinking about doing one big trip to SA and namibia.May go for 21 to 24 days and save the 4 or 5 thousand on airfare doing one long trip instead of two different years.Thats money I can put towards trophy fees.The trips add up with two hunting but only one paying the bills.

On my second trip back i took my second warthog Hope to go to Namibian next year will repete on kudu and oryx and warthog the new ones on my list zebra bushbuck nyala and you never know what els.

I fully intend to hunt some of the same species on this return trip.
Hunting them in different terrain and again in the same terrain should make for an interesting experience for comparison.
I will hunt Nyala every trip if they are present.

Birds - Guinea fowl hunting was incredible. Francolin this time in multiple spots.

Red Duiker I saw one last trip and after reading about them I have now made this one a priority.
Mountain Reedbuck Saw these guys up in the hills and this one is a must to.

my next trip which will be the second for me , i will try for another kudu for sure and gemsbok and if im lucky enough to come across another carcal he will be definately on the menu .
and if i can upsize on a few others they are on the cards also .
this trip im going to chase the smaller antelope and either a lioness or a buffalo one or the other added to this my wife will comming aswell so i dare say shell knock over a couple hope fully .
after this trip i reckon i will be trying another african country being either zambia ,mozambique or etheopia.
back to your original question yeah sure i think its fine to hunt the same animals each trip , specially if they are bigger or have some unique quality to them its all up to the hunter

Yes, on seeing and being very close to some of the same animals.
Like Cape Buffalo, impala, zebra, and warthog.

I did take a black wildebeest vs the chevron wildebeest prior.
I did take a red hartebeest vs the Lichtenstein hartebeest prior.
had nice cape buffalo, zebra, warthog and impala from the prior safari.

I did pass on some nice kudu 50+ inches and they were with 10 yards. Passed also on a water buck that was upper 20, passed on ostrich, eland, duiker, blue wildebeest, giraffe, and others.

Like i said i have a list and try to stick to my list. Develop a plan on future safari locations so that you are not overlapping on trophy selections.

In 2014, i will have a list of top 5 animals to work off and then some secondary animals to consider. i will go after Nyala again,Waterbuck if we can find a very nice one, will look at kudu and eland also. and a porcupine if i do not blow the thing up this time.

Looking at mtn reedbuck, duiker, bush buck and bush pig, blesbuck (white).

And if we come across something that look interesting...

I'd have a hard time finding a bigger waterbuck than my first trip (30.5 in), so wouldn't consider another one.
My kudu was 42-43. Could likely get a bigger, but have many other animals on the list ahead of it.

am considering a second zebra, though, simply because I am getting the first rugmounted and would like a shoulder mount also.

I am always glad to be a part of corrupting my fellow hunters, let me guess I am responsible for the Vallie craving? I may need another one of these myself just to appreciate them as much as they deserve. I am so fortunate to have taken one down in the wheat but I think I need to climb a few mountains next time.

I had no desire or intent to hunt Mountain Reedbuck but thanks to Jannie (landowner who cut his teeth on these guys growing up) I really enjoyed hunting them in the cliffs. We hunted them like bighorn sheep, although I will admit they were juuust a tad easier than sheep I still really enjoyed it.

I target new animals that I have not taken but have proven to be a sucker when presented with a truly outstanding specimen that I have already taken, even on the same safari. Plus there are the favorites, I will definitely be chasing a few more Eland down before I am through and another Warthog when I run across a monster.

There is not a man here who would quit hunting Whitetails (or Roe or whatever is the local favorite in your part of the world) after just one so why do we need to stop at just one in Africa?

On my first trip I shot Kudu, Oryx, Black Wildebeest, Impala and Springbuck.
On my trip this year I plan to hunt and hopefully shoot Kudu, Red Hartebeest, Bushbuck, Blesbuck and Impala. If I see a nice Springbuck, I will try that too. I am also considering blue- and black Wildebeest cows together with some other animals.
Time will tell, but as you see, am I going to hunt some of the same animals as I did last time

You are so right about this
I have shot more than 350 Roes and I still love hunting them.
I fell in love with the Impala on my last trip, so I think I will shoot minimum one on every African hunt I will do in the future

That is exactly how I feel about it. On the same hunting trip, if the quality is really excellent and I think it's a great opportunity...I'm more than willing to "double up", shooting the same animal. It's better to me than hunting something else in the area that would never meet my satisfaction, because it wasn't mature or big enough. You have to go with your heart, I like big, mature animals. And as Cliffy say, you will be back to Africa....it's just a matter of time and money in the pocket for a new adventure.

We have a totally different list on round two. In 2011 we were in Limpopo and this year we're going to be in Free State and KZN. We've got a big list in round two, everything from eland to red duiker. However, warthogs are so fun to shoot I'm sure I'll try to put a bead on another one. Same with the impala.. I took 2 last year but they're just so damn delicious, and there's always another one just a few inches larger!!

I shoot whitetail every year! As I go a long way and it is relatively more expensive than the buck in my back yard I am a bit more selctive.(in my mind anyway ) As a bow hunter I cannot think of a bigger thrill than to be in Africa with a bow in my hand.
