for sale is an early pre war oberndorf sporter stock from an intermediate large ring m98. It will also sit a standard m98 large ring. No buttplate but as it's only a 13" lop it's probably a good thing as a nice orange silvers pad can be fitted to take lop out to 14"-14.5". Overall great condition,
Inlet partially for bolt handle.

Make me a sensible offer.

Nice looking stock- too bad it was notched for the bolt handle. The bolt handle on the 1916 M98 that I have is turned down over the stock.

In a way yes and no. I suspect it was maybe build with clawmounts at a later date and bolt handle set back. On the positive note, if building a classic oberndorf sporter with a scope, it's not going to hurt putting a round rasp to a stock in perfect original condition. Hence, without buttplate this really makes for an ideal classic sporter project.

I was offered $250 US yesterday and that sets the mark. I've not heard back from the prospective buyer yet so it's still for sale of course.

Still for sale due to complete time waster.

$200 US plus postage gets it

I consider the price way high for a stock lacking hardware and appears to have been altered. JMO.

Ray, i suggest keeping opinions to yourself as you clearly don't know that a 1912 original oberndorf sporter stock is quite a nice platform to build a new or refurb classic sporter on. They usually trade around $300.

It's also virtually impossible to find an original oberndorf stock for the rare intermediate length action. I realise buttplate is missing but at an original 13" lop, 99% would want a classic 1" orange silvers pad on anyway,
The bolt handle notch means one doesn't have to worry about altering a pure open sight stock and the bolt handle can be sat at an angle allowing a very low scope mount which actually works with the steep drop comb.

Opinions are of course like as***oles, everyone has one

I stated why I considered the price too high. You could have responded with clarification of the issues and given some evidence to support the higher price. Instead you----

$125 US plus postage, final offer. I'm sure I'll get near double or more on ebay/gunbroker so will resort to there but thought I'd avoid the awful marketplace hassle and put this final offer out there if anyone is/is still interested.

Would you ship to Australia?

Hi,

As long as we can agree on postage charges which we can start looking into, yes, of course

Looks like parcelhero can do around £40 sterling, but I'll need I check exact dimensions and know your postcode, address, etc for a final quote. So approx 140 pounds sterling or $235 Australian dollars for the total package including postage depending on confirmation of address for an exact shipping quote.

Thanks so much for the reply. It looks as though the intermediate action will slightly differ from the large ring Mauser action and there will be a gap at the front of the receiver ring.

Cheers,
Mark.

One thing is for sure and that is the wood looks nice in the pictures.

I'll try and take a picture to show the excess gap but it's tiny, if you glass bed with brown acraglass it becomes virtually irrelevant

From its original configuration has had a notch cut for a turned-down bolt handle and now its getting glass bedded. So does this still qualify as original and demand collectible prices?

Pics showing the small gap from a large ring in intermediate stock. Like I said, if glass bedding in brown, even clear, this will be virtually invisible as you'd remove wood around the front ring anyway
