Hello, glad to be on board. Been dreaming of africa since toto wrote that song! Waiting till my son is a lttle older (he’s 12), we have been hunting feral hogs in florida for a few years and he’s really good. Were headed back there in three weeks. Biggest wuestion is what to hammer them with. This year i’m bringing my 375 h&h with a 1-4 scope and knock off rings to get field time with my rig. Next February we will be in new zealand to visit family and hunt. Probably bring 6.5 swede for that trip. We shoot often and handload for all of our non semi rifles including the old m44 mosin. Here in new york but cant wait to move out west were there is room. We want to shoot right off the porch. Look forward to future discussions . Good day

Welcome to AH Oldschool280!
Well, I live out west, but I still cannot shoot out my back door!
It sounds like you and your son are having a great time together in Florida! Keep it up and you’ll have a great long term hunting bud!

Good luck with planning your dream.

Welcome to AH.

Welcome aboard Old School280. You are breaking the boy in right for sure. What caliber rifle does he use? Many years ago I heard a shooter say, " if you take your boy ahuntin, you won't be ahuntin him." There is a lot of truth in that colloquial statement.

Welcome oldschool280,
I am new as well. It sounds like you are starting your son off the right way and have a great plan. Keep it up.

Thanx, when i was an apprentice some time back one of my journeyman was a hunter and he had a bumper sticker that said “ kids who hunt trap and fish dont mug little old lady’s” and that stuck. For Christmas two years ago i sprung for a 700 mountain rifle in 7-08. We have a real nice load for it with 150 ballistic tips moving along fast enough. He took the head off of a squirrel with it offhand last year at about 70 yards. Guess getting him a red ryder at 3 paid off.

I saw you were looking for some Swift A-Frames for your 9.3. I just bought a bulk supply of them in the 285g. version. If Toby's are gone, I could let 100 go for $200 shipped you are interested.
Thanks,
Gary
