Hi Guys
I`m a hunter from Norway, with more than 40 years of hunting on my shoulders.
Here in Norway I hunt everything, but my hart are beating for the raindeerhunting in the mountain.

I also hunt in Europe and Poland is one of my destination, I like the driven hunts and red stag hunting, also the Roedeer hunting hits my hart.

Africa and when I write Africa, South Africa and Namibia are my destination, My first trip to South Africa i went to Kwalata Wilderness in Limpopo province for Plainsgame hunt. After that I sold my soul to africa, I got bitten.

I use all my spare time travelling for hunting, Now a days I`m searching for Buffalo hunt with my Cousine, late this year or next year.

I usually use a Ruger Safari magnum for my hunts, but last summer I bought a Mauser in caliber 404, I write 404 because it is a shortened 404 Jeffery, so it fits in a standard Mauser M98 Magazinbox.

I also reload all my ammo for practise and hunting. then I got my best ammo for the purpose.

Welcome aboard Hallgeir. I have a 404 Jeffery that I load with 84 Gr. of H4350 and 400 Gr. bullets. The anticipated velocity is 2300 FPS. What load do you use in your 404? What velocity does it achieve? You are going to be very busy reading and posting to AH. I'm sure the outfitters will be contacting you with prices. Good luck in your search for a Buffalo hunt.

As i mentioned, my 404 is a 404 Jeffery that I have shortened the case from 73mm to 68mm
Because I shortened the case with 5mm I found a starting load 5% lower than the maximum in Woodleigh loadingdata,just for the purpose to fit in a standard Mauser M98 Magazine box. last summer I shot a lot with different loads just to find the perfect load with the 400 grs Woodleigh RNSN bullet.
I found my load :
RWS Cases, 79,0 grs with Vhitavuori N-140 powder (MAximum load in Woodleighs book is 83 ,0 grs,
federal 215 primers, Col is 84,5mm Vo is 2370 f/sec in average speed I`ve shot 3 shots series in Chronograph and the varity was +-10 f/sec.
I`ve study the cases avter shooting and I can`t find any signs off high pressure, the primers are good, not any heavy boltlift not any stretched cases.

On the target I get 3 shot grouping under 2" I figure that it`s very good with the rifle with such caliber and recoil, it`s a hard kicking bastard.
My plans are to use this on my buffalo hunt wich I`m planning.

Welcome Hallgeir. Had to look twice to see who was under the cap in your avatar. (looked like MS for a sec). Looks like you bring plenty of experience already and have been inflicted by the African bug. Sounds like you are also a gun nut like most of us so you will fit in really well.
