Guy,s. I am just wondering after ordering my new Chapuis in .470 NE and then booking a Cape Buffalo hunt in South Africa for August. What if the new Rifle is tight as I have a Merkel that I would not like to get into a, dare I say, panic reload as the thing is still very very tight. Any tips on loosening up a new gun if its tight to open. Or is it a trip to the gun smith. I have to say I have a Beretta over and under in 9.3 x 74 and that has no tight spots at all on opens smooth and easy.
thanks

If you know a Gunsmith that knows double rifle they can tune it up to open easier. I had Rolf Martini do my Merkel for me before I went Buffalo hunting and it worked flawless.

I like that AK........shoot it ..... ALLOT!

See it as part of practice :) Enjoy your safari!

My best always

Two things.

1st. Clean your gun well and apply synthetic grease to hinges and side areas, do not forget to put some grease on forearm latch hook.

2nd. assemble Your rifle, it should go together and open very easy now. practice opening your rifle, it should be fluid now.

3rd. take your rifle to the range and practice.

If you want a more sloppy fitting gun, open it repeatedly with out any lubricant on the hinge area. Pay attention to galling of he hinge area. This is not good.

Just open it yourself a few hundred times. It'll break in!

Glad to see uncle James agrees with at least one of my ideas!! :) :) shoot it! :)

My best always.

Shoot it......Your practice time for your up and coming trip will make it open and close easier

What part of the country do you live? Please let me know and I can refer you to excellent smiths that are double rifle mechanics.

shoot it and enjoy shooting it

Cover the action with tooth paste and open it a few hundred times….

Just kidding, please don’t do that!

Just handle it, make 4 dummy rounds with fired primers and reload and fire it a bunch and practice reloading while walking.

DO NOT use fired rounds as dummy rounds for practice. Once dented they offer no resistance and you might as well shoot it dry. Either eventually will damage firing pins, hammers or a spring.

I am righthanded, so not interested in the rifle, but I have a 375 RUM and 350 gr bullet loading data is very hard to come by. If you could reply with information regarding your loads I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, Ray Boone, Leavenworth, WA

Hello - I was looking at your post from several years ago regarding the Winchester 300 H&H. Any chance you still have the lefty M70 300 H&H for sale?
Thank you, Mike

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
Here we are, the last day of the show in Denver, it's been a good show but expecting a quiet day today. I will be back for-sure to do this show next year and maybe also do the one in Sacramento California.

On Monday I will be hitting the road driving from Denver and eventually make it down to Atlanta for the flight home.

its going to be a good year!
