Does anybody have any idea who may have built this rifle?
I would assume the initials in the stock were from the builder.

I bought this rifle recently at on auction.
It’s an early left hand 700 Remington barreled action in 270

I’m very pleased with the purchase and I’m looking forward to shooting it.

This is my first 270 Winchester.
I’d rather it was a 30/06.
Oh well, you can’t have everything.

A man can’t have too many 30/06s.

Gary Goudy built the rifle (or at least the stock).
The SF initials are likely the owner that had it commissioned from Goudy.

I’m glad you know what you’re doing.

Is Gary Goudy still around?
I think he passed away about 10 years ago…

He was did lots of stock work and checkering for Al Biesen and Jack O’Conner back in the day…

I can’t say for sure if it’s a Biesen with a Goudy stock but it might be worth having someone that knows more than I take a look at it in person….

Regardless, it’s a beautiful rifle for sure…

Thanks for the information on Gary Goudy .
There’s lots of info on the internet about him.
Guns international has some of his rifles.

Beautiful rifle, I can see it being rebored to 35 Whelen to make it even better.

Here's a photo of Tony receiving that Shaw & Hunter award at the 1970 annual EAPHA Dinner Dance. Tony Dyer, then EAPHA President and Princess (Sunny) von Auersperg presented it. I also attended the event.

Good Afternoon,
How firm are you on your Dakota 416? I am highly interested but looking at a few different guns currently.

Best,
BJ
