My NIB Win Model 70 in .375 H&H just came in

So funny, I am sitting here shopping. I am 90% sure i am going to put the Swaro Z6i in 1.7 - 10x. Also plan on Talley QD rings but looks like i need to figure out the base situation as well. I think i'll ask for advice on that in a post.

Thoughts?
Excellent scope choice! It will make the most of a very versatile cartridge.

Great choice. A swaro 1-8\1.7-10 or a Leupold 1-6 or 2-10 would be my top choices.

I’ve got a vx-6hd 1-6 on my 375 and a 2-12 on my 300 WM, but since it’s a Blaser R8 I can quickly switch scopes if needed/desired. I practice past 500 yds with my 6.5 PRC which wears a 2.5-10 and prefer lower magnification so a 1-6 will do everything I will ask of it. IF swaro 1-8 was still a 30 mm tube I think one of those would be great.

First trip to the range will be tomorrow am with the 375 so we’ll see how I find the recoil. I’m really like to have a 416 RM wearing a 1-6 and a 2-12 on my 375 and take those two barrels to a dangerous game area someday. Not sure I can shoot well with a 416 though. Will work my way up and see…

PS. Yes to the Talley QD mounts. IF you have useable iron sights I think it’s definitely the way to go. Can take it off easily if you’re going into the really thick stuff or if your scope craters (unlikely). Can also keep your optic in your carry on if you prefer.

Here's mine with the same set up you're describing. It is a tight fit, but Talley also makes extended front bases in their signature line that will give you a little more wriggle room. I'll PM you what these look like as a picture is hard to find online. One more other thing - this is a New Haven gun, but the distances are the same.

I'll go ahead and post a pic of the signature extended front bases. This is not my rifle, but shows they give you approximately another 1/4" with which to work. I have found that the standard size works well with straight tube scopes, but the extended fronts are (obviously) more likely to fit scopes with 42, 44mm, etc. objectives - particularly newly manufactured scopes with their shorter tubes.

Nice rifle. I always like the winchester look- old school. When it comes to scopes, you need to think what you are going to use it for. If it is buffalo and then plainsgame I would be looking at 1-6 with a red dot centre. I think that is suitable out to 250 m or so. If you have plainsgame first and maybe a buffalo in your future then you might want to go out to 10 x. That said, I have a 4-12 on my 30-06 and I have never used more than 6 or 8 hunting. I find that I only push the magnification up at the range.

^^^^^ What he said! My AHR CZ 375 H&H has a Trijicon 1-6x24 on top of Alaskan Arms mounts. I use my 375 for both, PG & DG, and I am happy with this scope. This past June I made my longest shot with this rifle at a Kudu quartering away, distance was 312 yds.

If you have shot alot of .300wm, the .416 really isn't much different to me...at least on sticks. Recoil doesn't really bother me though. I will say, taking a .22 and working with it after 3 or 4 shots on the sticks is MASSIVELY helpful. i thought it would be a waste of time. It is definitely not. Shockingly not. I highly recommend.

I plan on taking that gun out to the range on the 11th and feeding her a bunch of different rounds and see which one she digests best. Will have the chrono working and can then work up the round i like best with anticipation that i get the scope dialed in on that and have a custom turret made for it.

Honestly, I used to be much better at shooting 500 yards plus. My eyes are too old or something because i struggle past 500 and even then, 500 can be difficult. Plus on the .375, i can't imagine shooting more than 300 yards.

One big difference for me is going to be how loud this thing is going to be. I've shot 90% of my stuff suppressed now. i could be convinced to thread this gun and put a can on it and have a thread protector for when a can is illegal but i kinda hate that look on a safari rifle. I just love the noise reduction and the recoil help doesn't hurt either. I actually shoot my can guns better than my un-suppressed weapons.
