Would love to get some feedback from the professionals on this forum.

I went to the range the other day to check my rifle before my trip to Kazakhstan and it is still shooting the way I set it up at 3.5 inches high at 100m.

Shooting a 270 win using 130gr GMX , 2980 fps , .460 BC , sight height is at 1.77 inches and utilizing a 9" target. Shooters calculator specified at 3.5" high at 100 yards gets me out to 348 yards ( 318 m ) , and is the furthest I plan to shoot. ( Hypothetically speaking if an opportunity arose that a great ibex billy or siberian roe deer are at 350m to 400m i would still aim on the fur just the top of it's shoulder aligned with the front leg. )

Sorry to blab on for this long, my question is for the more professional hunters , do you prefer to use this method of MPBR as in field conditions sometimes it is hard to range an animal or dial out as quick as they run away. ( In Australia I have taken red stags from 60ish meters to 230 m without having the time to range them with this sight in method and have confidence in the rifle and myself )

These are my targets at 100m ,200m and 300m and I am bad at shooting at paper and have pulled quite a few of the shots at 300m. With as bad the shoots are at 300m all of those would still be good hits on fur.

I seem to get flustered shooting at paper but in the field it is a different story.

Any feedback is welcome with open arms.

IMO, it's more what You are comfortable with. I'm sure you have verified your actual zero is about 300 Yards. And if needing to thread the needle through brush at 150 - 175 (more of an African or Texas thing) you need to remember to hold ~4.5" low.

Having said that, the "professional" shooters I know all zero at 100 and use reticle holds (if needed) out to the distances you refer to. And dial if truly long range. Those include three snipers (two are serious hunters and gun game competitors). One of the latter is a recently retired instructor for an NGO btw, and helped me immensely when learning to shoot from the sticks. ("Quit holding your breath"!)

Being me, I like to zero at a known distance of 200M (~1.5 to 1.75" high at 100) and verify the calculated drops to 325 Yds and beyond. But my range has hanging steel to distances much farther than I would shoot at game.

Good luck on your hunt!

Once i shot at 300m to confirm my zero , out of 6 i shot , 2 of them are great but the others i knew i pulled the shots. ( the pulled shots where not ideal but would have still been a good hit on a live animal )

I am quite comfortable with it, as stated previously it helped me from shortest shot at 60m to my furthest shot at 230m shot on a red stag with me just aiming at the center of the chest no need for any holdovers.

I guess , I am just feeling overwhelmed and anxious about the trip and not wanting to mess up hence the overthinking. It's my first trip OS for a hunt so i guess i am popping my international hunt cherry.

Appreciate the well wishes
