Good day AH community!

As we now have the time to reflect on another truly incredible Buffalo hunting season we find ourselves already itching to get back out there and look for the Dugga boys that got away! We had a truly phenomenal season at Madikwe with our incredibly skilled team managing to successfully hunt some absolutely breathtaking bulls. Once again this season we did not see a lapse in the age or quality of the Buffalo we hunted, but the hunt remained as difficult as we have come to expect from Madikwe! Years of hard work and management are continuing to pay off! That is the beauty of having enough space for buffalo to hide!

We will be hunting a limited quota of 3 Buffalo bulls in the 2026 season as part of our continued management plan. This ensures a high degree of success for the client and a maintained focus on age.

We also like to make it clear that when a hunter books a Buffalo hunt with us at Madikwe we have no size restrictions/limits. Our focus will always be on age. It is the hunters luck on the day that determines the bull he is destined to meet with. That being said the biggest bull we have hunted there measured a whopping 51 an 1/4" using the Rowland Ward method.

Those of you who have hunted Cape Buffalo will know exactly why it is such an addictive hunt and a hunt that deserves all the respect and prestige afforded to it! If you could bottle the feeling of your first buffalo hunt and sell it you'd most definitely be a wealthy man!

Camp is a tented Hemingway style camp with a bricked chalet we call the Honeymoon suite as an option as well. If doing this hunt don't rule out the plains game hunting which is simply incredible. Travel time from OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg to camp is a painless 3 and a half hours drive.

If you can successfully hunt one of our buffalo you will have bragging rights at having successfully done one of the hardest buffalo hunts in South Africa! All buffalo are different and offer something unique to the client but one thing that is common across the board at Madikwe is quality old Dugga boys. Whether its a scrumcap bull or a 48 inch monster a few hunters are going to get very lucky next year!

Buffalo are truly a noble adversary and it is for this reason that we at Bayly Sippel Hunting Safaris choose to conduct our hunts to the highest standard. Hard hunting on foot by taking the freshest tracks from the day before. The days are very long, consisting mainly of following tracks at a painstakingly slow pace, sweeping roads & checking waterholes. The bush varies from extremely thick thorn bush to semi-open savannah. We hunt large self sustaining herds however the older bulls tend to walk alone or in small Dugga boy groups.

Few experiences in Africa rival the challenge and respect earned in a traditional Cape buffalo hunt. At Bayly Sippel Hunting Safaris, we pride ourselves on conducting every hunt to the highest standard, the way it was meant to be done: on foot, fair chase, and earned through hard hunting. The hunting is fair chase and we will target old bulls as a preference. The physical demands of the hunt are high. You will require a high level of fitness as well as a good back whilst on this hunt. Each day begins before sunrise, taking up the freshest tracks from the day before. Success is never guaranteed, and that’s exactly what makes it unforgettable. We focus on old, battle-scarred bulls. These hunts are physically and mentally challenging, requiring good fitness and endurance. The terrain varies from dense thorn thickets to semi-open savannah. We hunt self-sustaining herds however the most coveted trophies are often found alone or in the company of just one or two other old “Dugga boys,” living out their final years in solitude.

At Bayly Sippel Safaris, you don’t just hunt buffalo, you earn your buffalo!
