Good morning/afternoon / evening all!

I recently went to the Denver Rocky Mountain expo and the leupold rep sold me a leupold mark ar 3-9x40 firedot for my .375 H&H. The problem is that I didn't notice the "AR" portion of the name until I got home! The rep assured me that this scope could handle the recoil of the 375 H&H with no problem but I'm concerned because it was made for a .223. I'd like your input on this conundrum, do you think it would still be safe? Thanks in advance!

Not the expert here, but I would not use a scope designed for a .223 on my .375 HH, no matter what the salesman said. More important possibly is that if you take it to Africa, you have a lot of money riding on that scope, unnecessarily! Not just the cost of the scope.

I've use a VX1 Series 4x12 Leupold on my 375HH for 3 plus years of regular range visits and have never had a problem even the less expensive Leupolds are very sturdy, I believe the AR designation has more to do with fine tuning scope adjustments, I would give Leupold a call if you have any concerns

Yep call their customer service! I have found them to be very helpful.

I agree with others that the AR designation is just to say it works well on that rifle and should not keep it from being able to be used on your 375 H&H.

Agree with the others, you'll be good.

That doesn't mean that scope can't fail, just that it isn't anymore likely than others to fail. The 375 and bigger put scopes through a workout, no doubt. A second scope as a backup is never a bad idea.

Lifetime warranty too.

Thank you all for your input! Here is what leupold said!

Hello-

No need to worry it will hold up just fine to the recoil.

Thank you

Hi there! I just returned from the Rocky Mountain expo in Denver CO with a leupold mark ar mod1 3-9x40mm fire scope. I told the leupold rep it was for my 375 H&H and they assured me it would work. Sadly I didn't notice the "ar" part of the name and now I'm concerned. Will the"ar" scope, meant for a .223 rifle, really stand up to the recoil of my .375 H&H or has my enthusiasm landed me in a bad spot? Any info would be great, thank you for your time!

Problem solved enjoy your scope,

Now you just need to post a picture of the setup for us and the paper holes from sighting in.
