The Leica Amplus 6 1-6 x 24 i is the riflescope for hunters who have to rely completely on their hunting optics under the demanding conditions of a driven hunt. Love the scope but the illogical placement of 2 raised emblems on the front of the tube creates mounting problems. How many times do you need to brand it??

This 1-6X zoom is the right combination of optics and power range for a dangerous game 'scope... but it is VERY short for a magnum length bolt rifle. As already pointed out the emblems on the tube are exactly where the forward scope ring should be... but the emblems make it impossible. The scope has very little (zero?) room for forward/rear position adjustments - it should be an inch longer and free of obstructions to mounting. I wanted to buy one but I could not work out a proper way to mount it on a Mauser 98 magnum action.

Did any of you hear me cursing when Todd called me yesterday evening and told me "We have a problem..."? He is getting it sorted with an extension ring, but Leica really created a problem that could have easily been prevented. If I didn't (possibly) need the extension ring for eye relief, I was going to have him remove the emblems and mount the ring where it needs to be.

You pay this much for a scope it should be flexible enough to mount it correctly. That being said, it appears to be possibly "glued" on. Is there an option to remove the emblem and mount correctly? Again an upper end product, this shouldn't be the cure but .....

They are metallic and inletted into the tube. Removal was one of our options.

I have long been of the opinion that young engineers should be required to service current products for at least a year (two years is better) before they are allowed on the design team. That would allow them to learn first-hand any flaws in current product designs, and avoid them in future products. It would certainly avoid this issue with the emblems interfering with scope mounting, to say nothing of making routine auto maintenance less frustrating.

An extended ring/mount is an option, but I do not like extensions (or any other feature) that may make operating a DG rifle more difficult. Besides, I think they look a bit hokey.

What size action is this? Looks pretty big (magnum?), but wanted to confirm. I'm planning to mount this scope on a medium Sako (8x57) action and have assumed that it should fit without an extended mount, but now I have some doubts.

But, if money during the current Administration is a factor, check out the Trijicon 1-6 or Leupold 1.75-6 prior to doing so. Perhaps Leica could contribute to the R or I party in America to tilt things in their favor? LOL I checked em all out at EuroOptic and found the T to be the best in its class! No sales pitch. The red color is pretty.

I really like the scope, and I considered taking a Trijicon, Swarovski or Leupold off of other rifles to make this work but I am happy with the end results. I believe the complicated German QD mounts such as EAW and Recknagel often contribute to making simple solutions more complicated.

Thanks for the info and the offer. I've held the scope over my CZ 550 Safari Magnum action to consider available mounting space. I think I'd have issues trying to mount it with standard rings and mounts on an action that large; there is considerable real estate between those dovetails.

I don't have my hands on the Sako yet, but from pictures I think I should have enough room on the front of the Amplus for the front ring. However, I do plan to use the single piece Optilok ringmounts which require the ringmount to be in the middle of the front dovetail (to avoid alignment/windage adjustnent issues), meaning I won't have the ability to move it around much (or at all) if it's close to or touching the logo.

We'll see what happens. I'll try to remember to post results in here once I have the new rifle and try mounting this scope.

I really like the scope BUT when I mounted it to my Winchester M70 .375H&H I became very disappointed in Leica. With the scope moved forward as far as it could go the front ring landed about a third of the way on the emblems.

Luckily it fit on my Sako Grizzly in 8X57 and thats where it sits now.

dchamp - Thanks for posting those photos. If that's how it fits on an M70, it would never fit on my magnum M98 without extended mounts, and I hate extended mounts.

Thanks for sharing those pics and your experiences. I will be mounting the scope on basically that exact action (Sako 85 in 8x57; I have an 85 Deluxe ordered vs. the Grizzy, but the action should be identical, I assume), so this is very helpful.

But now I'm a bit worried again. I have purchased the one-piece Sako Optilok ringmounts. From video tutorials I've watched, the front ringmount needs to be mounted directly in the middle/center of that front dovetail--not at the back or closest to the action like you're able to do with the separate ring and mount system. This centered orientation would put that ring directly in the middle of the logo if I have scope as far back as you do in these pics.

I could play with moving the front ringmount back or forward on the dovetail, but the tutorial I watched mentioned that doing so moves the scope's line of sight left or right, and depending on the scope, you might not have enough windage adjustment available to get to zero. Or I could try to move the scope a bit forward, but that will also depend on eye relief and how I fit against the stock. Worst case scenario, I ditch the one-piece ringmounts and go for a two piece set up like you have, but I do like the idea of the one-piece mounts and that they can get you lower than the base + low mount Optiloks. I probably should stop fretting about hypotheticals and just wait until I have the rifle in hand, but that's hard for me to do.

For aesthetic reasons, I get why Leica put that logo where they did. But it seems like it does cause some issues with certain action sizes and mounts.
