Learning to shoot a 375 H&H

Mac,

You said it all right that it is a mysterious chqambering. This remarkable caliber ,The .375 H&H Magnum does have a deep mystic significance & tested up to the mark cartridge which IMO has taken much more game than all the calibers combined . No doubt, if it is throned on as "THE EMPEROR" ......

Use correct grain age of bullet loads & be confident to bag the most feeble to the utmost dangerous game with it ... Its a overall caliber which can be taken for hunts all across the globe , with ammo available most of the time in most of the places.

I do want to get another 375 H&H!.......................... Its just money!!:D

Kiwi 505,

Buy a .500

Buy a .500 shoot it for 6 months until you are comfortable with it. You will then be able to go back and shoot your .375 like it was a varmint rifle. I promise it works, no joke. Seriously a 375 is more comfortable to shoot than several smaller rifles calibers, like the .340 weatherby and a few others.

375 H & H is one of my favorites and one I use for just about everything. I like to use 225 gr. loads for whitetails and 260 grn. loads for larger game in N. America. 260's work well on deer to. I use a light load with the 225's that about duplicates the 375 winchester load ballistics. I load the 260's to about 2650 to 2700 fps. My 13 year old grand-daughter shots the 225 grn. load in a T/C Encore
that I had built to fit her with no problem. She's taken (2) deer with it. There is a previous post about some reduced recoil safari ammo. Looked at the site. Their 225 reduced load is spot on with my load. With the right loads I feel the 375 H & H is well within anyone's capabilities. Once you get comfortable with it you begin to understand why this is probably the most verastile rifle cartridge that has ever been developed.

Shoot more and more often with your 375, get comfortable with the rifle, don't think of the kick, it will come to you over time, know the ballistics as to for whatever rounds/ammo you will use, shoot them, get what works the berst in YOUR 375, go on your hunt, it is just like any other rifle, never get scared of the bigger caliber, if so, get over it, shoot some more rounds!
Hapy hunting

I have owned 338's that have kicked harder. I purchased a 375 H&H in a Remington 700, sent it to Remington to have a laminated stock put on it, and wal'la it shot like a champ and recoil was very managable. I also have a 416 Rigby and a 458 win mag, so like Double D said, if you get use to a bigger caliber then the 375 is very managable. And to add to my first statement I had a custom built 338 win mag that would knock your fillings out, it was built as a mountain rifle, a little less than 7.5lbs with scope and 3 rds in the mag. I will never do that again, add a little weight and it makes all the difference. Should have learned that with the m-14 vs. the m-16. Point is shoot often and at you will get use to the rifleand caliber. Scott.

Lots of good advice here. Red Leg breaks it down simply and smartly. Nuff said.
