Hi All,

I received an advertisement via email recently that stated ‘last opportunity to hunt free range Kafue lechwe’. Are they no longer offering quota in the GMA?

I’m heading to RSA on Thursday and would contemplate zipping up to Lusaka for a few days if this is the case.

Thanks!
Bivy

Last year only one of the two areas was open. No clue about this year, but with last years awarding or not awarding of GMA’s it would not surprise me

My, my, my, I hunted the Kafue Flats decades ago. It teemed with wildlife. Countless Lechwe, the largest herds of Zebra I have ever seen, and too many others animals to recall. I stayed at an enormous old lodge overlooking the Flats that looked like a castle from a movie. At the time there was unrest in Zambia and I was the only guest staying in the lodge. Eating alone in the vast dining room was eerie and walking to my room my footsteps seemed to echo. From the front lawn you could see fires flickering in the distance. I understand the lodge burned to the ground some years later.

Just a rumor. It is open with a quota of 25 that have already been sold out. Someone probably was too late and said it is closed. Yes, it’s closed to all but 25 hunters. The PH I hunted there with in 2022 reserved 4 of the 25 for this year.

Quota has all been sold out, the area and hunting rights will continue as normal.
There was a limit to what each operator can procure.
If you haven’t booked one for this year in advance, highly unlikely that an operator will have one unspoken for unfortunately.
