Hey everyone, had a pleasant conversation with Rosella the other day about handling my buffalo/ hippo and plains game hunt with Marius this August. And by the way Robert is coming along well , slowly but well which is great news. Rosella informed me that Customs has been asking for photos of the kill of trophies being importered. Another knife in the sides of hunters I guess. This has made SSI inform me that they will be bringing in my trophies to Chicago to avoid the additional nonsense. Since my taxidermist is in Pennsylvania I guess it's about the same cost. Just wanted to pass along this bullshit. Anyone have recent experience with this? I brought in a small shipment in October without incident.

I know we have zealots in particular customs offices up here, and you obviously have your share, but this one is confounding.

If I understand correctly, some Customs office is demanding photographs of your trophies in the field in order to allow them into the country?
What basis in law can these individuals possibly have?

None! Just Harresment

Maybe they want to see that you were the hunter. Only one hunter's trophies in a crate. If someone other than the name on the paperwork is sitting behind the animal in the photo would bring up a lot of questions.

I have 12 plains game trophies at JFK as I write this. Hoping to get them cleared by the end of the week. I will report everything once I hear what is going on. Using Coopersmith to help me.

Shipment from SA cleared in early January 17' at JFK, no word of this.....

I use Matt Mayers, Genus Logistics.

One more hoop to jump through!

just smile for the camera and.....

My PH took extra photos of me with no hat and no sunglasses with my lioness for this exact reason. I didn't have any issues but precautions were taken. Another hassle but this is the world we live in.

I don't think it is standard practice and more if maybe they question something in a crate. I will still use coppersmith and have my stuff sent right in to jfk.

I just had a buddy of mine get the same request from Coppersmiths in JFK NY. He had two baboons full mounted and a 14" Warthog, along with 11 other plains game including a Sable and Roan. Plus a Cape Buffalo pedestal mount. The only photos they requested were of him with the baboons and Warthog?? Strange. Kevin

Back in the mid 90s apparently there was some agent in Miami or Los Angeles who would seize blesbok and insist they were bontebok without cites permits

Hmm, the two animals that are USDA regulated. Coincidence?

I agree with Mike @spike.t , just smile for the camera. This really isn't much of an issue.

My question is how are these photo used, disposed or ? After the fact. Are they following government regulations for privacy etc.

Who finds out how and to who the pics are to be provided? Who then sends to the correct agent/email?

Had an excellent classifieds transaction with JoninCO. A truly honest and standup member. I wouldn't hesitate at all to deal with him again. Thanks, J!

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
hi, do you know about lions hunters, leopard hunters, and crocodiles hunters of years 1930s-1950s
I'm new to Africa Hunting. I would like to purchase a Heym 450-400 double rifle. I'm left-handed but would prefer a non-canted gun. Is anyone in the community considering parting with theirs?
