The realization that our first trip to RSA is becoming all too real. One of the Christmas gifts from my 14 year old daughter was a hand made picture with a Quote from Brian Jackman. It instantly was hung in my reloading area.
Followed up by a customized leather bound journal with parchment type paper so I can document the hunt.
To say the least, the excitement is building, as we are a short 9-10 months away. I can't wait!

Merry Christmas to all.

What wonderful memories you are making even before you get to take your hunt!! Merry Christmas!

Absolutely love the picture. That’s too cool.
I know, so thoughtful and creative. She soaked the paper in coffee, then after it dried, burnt the edges.
Should have seen her face when I told her she got East and West wrong on the compass rose....LOL. Obviously she didn't, I was just ruffling her feathers.

Merry Christmas

Now that is a very heart felt gift that you will admire and enjoy for the rest of your life.

Your first safari is always a special adventure. is your daughter going with you? She could proof read you daily notes.

Flat out beautiful! Your daughter has a wonderful talent, and please tell her I'd buy one of those quotes from her. (y) (y)

BTW, what animals are you going after, and what rifle are you taking? More details please. :ROFLMAO:

A most excellent and thoughtful gift!!!!

Oh man! Congrats! I can tell that y’all have been bitten hard by the African bug. It’s going to be a long, long nine months! I’m wheels up in 34 days headed to Cameroon and the days are dragging by.

I’ve been to quite a few places and countries. If you need any help or tips on future trips, let me know. There’s a wealth of knowledge by many here on AH. I hope you have a great safari and good luck.

Very much so! Unfortunately, she will not be accompanying me on this trip. I was invited by a friend, who I had the pleasure of introducing to big game hunting 30 years ago. It will be my friend, my brother, and his wife.

From what I am gathering, I will most likely be planning my next trip with my family, by the time this hunt ends.

Happy New Year

Well she sure didn't get that talent from me, thank goodness for her mother.
So I will be hoping to bring home an Impala, Springbuck,Warthog, Blue Wildebeest, and a Burchell's Zebra. My next trip, Lord willing, will be Buffalo and Kudu.
As for my rifle, I will be bringing a Ruger Hawkeye in 358 Winchester. It will be firing the 225gr Woodleigh PP. I will also have my late fathers BLR in 308. It was always a dream for him or one of his boys, to get to Africa. So he will be with us. I will probably load the 150 TTSX out of that. The .416 will have to wait for the next outing.

Happy New Year

Hi Scott,

It really has bitten me, maybe even twice. I would imagine as the hunt draws nearer, the days tend to go by slower. What are you chasing over in Cameroon? The thought of hunting Africa (logistics) seems a bit overwhelming at the moment, however it probably isn't as bad as I am thinking.
As mentioned in another post, Lord willing I will be back with my family. I have a 14 year old daughter and a 10 year old son that are both excellent off of sticks and are hoping one day go to Africa with me. My wife will shoot a nice Canon R8 Camera.
Thank you for offering to answer questions I may have, I really appreciate it. I have really enjoyed being member on this site. Lots of great people, great stories and lots of helpful information.

Happy New Year.

That is awesome that you will be taking the BLR, and not a bad start either. One small suggestion. Save some extra $$$ just in case that one monster shows up that is not on your list. (y) :ROFLMAO:

Yes. If possible try to have a little extra in the budget in case a Kudu pops out that you just can't say no to taking on this trip.

Trying to be a bridge between Eastern and Western schools of conservation.
From India, based in Hungary.
Nugget here. A guide gave me the nickname as I looked similar to Nugent at the time. Hunting for over 50 years yet I am new to hunting in another country and its inherent game species. I plan to do archery. I have not yet ruled out the long iron as a tag-along for a stalk. I am still deciding on a short list of game. Not a marksman but better than average with powder and string.
