The pandemic has had a major impact on my hunting plans. The plan was to hunt the early season locally for various reasons. But, the resulting scheduling fiasco has left a backlog that eliminates any chance of that for the next 4 or 5 years at least!

This week I was in full-on "woe is me" mode about this, lamenting how my life plans were ruined!

My sons listened for a bit and then remarked to the effect - "Dad, who cares if we go late season and don't get anything. We just go to spend time with you out there. Shooting something is just a bonus."

And just like that I was reminded of what is important and what isn't.

It is, indeed, a wonderful life.

Nothing wrong with late season hunts, I prefer the bush at that time, hyper dry, maybe the first shower or two.

For me it will mean cold. Hopefully fresh snow because you can see the prints. If it's warm enough to be wet it can be unpleasant, but nothing a wood fire can't take care of

isnt it the worst conditions and most difficult uncomfortable "hunts" that make the best memories

Pheroze, congratulations, you have a couple of smart kids, either that or it is just chickens coming home to roost. The older we get, the sooner we realize that it is the comradery not the meat that counts. So, dress a little warmer, put on a good pair of Muck Boots go out and have some fun.

Good morning,
Did you hunt w Leeuwkop at their ranch or in Zimbabwe? The ranch looks awesome, but I'll be in Zimbabwe for buffalo and whatever else we dig up.
What did you hunt for?
Vaccines?
What rifle did you use?
I feel like I need a good cotton safari shirt and an ammo belt to make the hunt feel right!
How often did you shoot prior to going?
Did you use sticks for shooting practice?
