Is the Golden Age of hunting now?

A tale of two countries?

Actually, I was just thinking that whether we look at African hunting 120 years ago, or 70 years ago, or today...we can find elements that might make each period both the best and the worst.

What I can say is to enjoy today, because these days are "The Good Olde Days" we will talk about in the future.
Carpe diem my friends.

Basically agree with Spike and Hank2211, but…

As much as I would love to hunt in “wild Africa”, (Tanzania, Zambia…) I just cannot afford it. So instead I hunt SA .

High fenced farms, not free range, yes, but doing your homework you will find that there are small farms and large farms, some very large. Also consider that about half the animals you can hunt in SA are not concerned about fences, they can go through, under or over them.

Then there is the hunter´s attitude, some will be as Spike depicted, lots of animals, cheap and fast. On the other hand, some will pay a lot of money to shoot huge trophies on a small enclosure.

But it does not necessarily have to be this way. Tell you Outfitter/PH what you expect, stalking, mature animals... they love it when you tell them you don´t bring a tape measure, that what you want is a good hunting experience. You can take your time to hunt and not shoot the first Eland you see, but wait until you find, the right bluebull, even if it takes you four safaris

How you hunt is your choice, and you can have a good fair chase experience in SA.

So, for me, yes, it is the Golden Age of hunting !

I have been using a "Personal Property" rider on my State Farm homeowner's policy to cover guns when I travel with them.
I have several firearms, but only one is worth over $20K (A Heym double rifle).
Very interested.
Would firearms be covered for damage, as well as, complete loss?
I'll can let the State Farm rider cover my watches...
Behind the scenes of taking that perfect picture.....

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.
Ready for the hunt with HTK Safaris
