Hey guys,

I'm a skeet shooter/sporting clays shooter from Houston, Texas. I've been looking into double rifles for a long time and am looking at taking the plunge, since I'd love to go to Africa someday. I'm one of those who grew up with stories of Hemingway and Roosevelt gallivanting across Africa on Safari, and reading stories from Patterson & Capstick.

That being said, I've never fired any rifle greater than 5.56 caliber. Apart from my large magnum revolvers(.460 & .500 S&W), I have no experience in big bore calibers. I was wondering if anyone in the Houston Area would be willing to let me try a double(.450NE,.470NE or .500NE) or other large bore bolt actions(.458 Win Mag) so I can see if this is really what I want to do. PM me if anyone is interested. I will recoup the ammo costs.

..:welcome:..to AH. I'm sure one of the good guys in your area will offer some help. However, for your own safety and general peace of mind, don't shoot any of Bob's rifles, don't take any advice from Bluey or Scott or Eric or Jane, and just ignore Spike...he'll go away after a while.

Welcome to AH theelectricfox!

Super Job waking up the circus.:eye crazy:

Actually I am not sure they ever sleep:D

I am a fellow Texan (North Texas) and I too am new to these big rifles and Africa thing. I am, though, enjoying my new 375 H&H. It just harvested its first whitetail over thanksgiving. There are plans to allow my wife to adopt the 375 and I move on to something bigger. ;)

sounds nice..... how did that Sabatti work out? Last I heard they were using a dremel to regulate? LOL

Thanks for the offer, check your PM's soon.

Yes the Sabatti's generate some "spirited" discussions.... Love mine, no "regulation by dremel", it shoots where it is suppose to, don't need much else.

Welcome to AH.
Can't help you with that big gun.
There are a couple Texan AH members.
Hope someone can help.

Show up the DSC show and ask around. There might be a couple folks there who like doubles.

Welcome to AH theelectricfox! No doubt that Wes will take good care of you he just that kinda guy. Come on up to Dallas in a few of weeks and you can meet a bunch more of the nuts that hang out here. Bob

There's a bunch of DR shooter down there in the flat land. I'm sure that they'll be glad to let you try theirs out some.
If you wander thru the northland I'll let you shoot my 450 Searcy or if you want a real thrill you can try out the 600 NE.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
