On my way to a conference starting on Monday. Any recommendations for places to visit, stuff to buy etc? Always looking for hunting related stuff, but obviously firearms/ammo etc is out of the question due to flying.

Will be staying on the Strip, pretty close to the Venetian.

Thanks in advance.

Hoover Dam near Boulder City is only about 30 minutes or so away. A tour of the dam I think is worthwhile. And it'll get you away from all of the neon of the strip. For me personally a couple days on the strip and I need to get away from it.

There are places in town where you can actually go shoot a fully automatic weapon. It's kind of expensive, but if you've never done it, it's worth doing once.

There's also Bass Pro Shops in town. You could perhaps pick up some non-gun related hunting items there.

Do a walkthrough at the Cosmopolitan. IMO, it's the coolest hotel on the strip. It's a bit edgy, even by Vegas standards. Definitely my favorite place to stay when I'm there for my annual nerd pilgrimage every August.

FWIW, marijuana is legal in Nevada if you're into that sort of thing.

If you're into race cars, there's a track outside Vegas where you can actually get behind the wheel with a professional driver next to you. Not cheap, but there are several options to choose from. Couple of them can go 0-100 kmh in 2-3 seconds, F-1 class stuff.

If you want to try Cajun food, Emeril Lagasse has a place there. There's also a Bubba Gump Shrimp restaurant right across from The Cosmo. They're both pretty good.

Check out the mob museum a couple blocks off Fremont Street, then hangout on Fremont Street and watch the Freakshow after dark....

Wild West Guns on Wynn road is usually worth checking out. Capo’s restaurant on Sahara has the best sausage and peppers that you will ever eat and I don’t go to Vegas without at least one meal being taken there. The Mob Museum as mentioned is great. The Hoover Dam is cool but I much prefer sitting my ass on a barstool in the Dam Brewery in Boulder and drinking while I watch the whole documentary on the building of Hoover Dam on the TV there. Occasionally I will watch it twice in a row because they have some Dam Good Beer!

Also in the Fremont St area is Container Park. A shopping / eating area made out of shipping containers, complete with a giant fire breathing metal grasshopper out front.

As a Vegas native many of the suggestions above are worth looking into. It’s Vegas though you should peel a few 100’s out and hit the craps table...put 50 on the yoke and play the pass line

Bass Pro has a casino next to it. And a full body mount giraffe!

Thanks for all the ideas. Just landed and got onto the Strip and had a few beers. Haven't been in Vegas since 2001, so I'll probably be mostly looking around tomorrow. But first it's time for sleep - it's been a long day. The watch says 10PM, but my internal clock says 7AM..

Caesars buffet!

Try the Wynn Buffet.

I also like Batista‘s Hole in The Wall, comes with all the cheap wine you can drink in the price of the meal.

The road out of there is the most interesting part to me!

Timely thread @cmk I'm here for an event as well.

I saw Journey at the colosseum....that was an amazing show. Every trip I go see Penn & Teller at the Rio.

enjoyed gourmet chinese at Mott 23 and dry aged steaks at Gallagher’s in NYNY.

following this thread for more ideas this week!

Don't remember the place but I stayed a night in an old hotel with really small rooms down by Freemont. There was a patched up what looked like a bullet hole in the shower....

That same trip, in the summer though, we hired a tour van to pick us up and drive us to the Grand Canyon and did a white water float trip down the canyon. It was fantastic but more of a summer thing, even then the river was cold. The lifted us out half way with helicopters and took us back to Vegas.

Everyone always thinks about the worst thing that can happen, maybe ask yourself what's the best outcome that could happen?
