Hello,
Anyone have experience with IMR 4451 in the 375 H&H?
I started working with it because I found 4 pounds of this powder.
Hodgdons lists the maximum with a 300 grains bullets at 74.5 and 74.7 with a 270 grains.
Right now I'm at 75 grains with at least 3 different 300 grains bullets and accuracy averages between around 1" at 100 yds. Speed is in the 2530 fps range. Below this powder charge, accuracy was 2-3 inches groups. Bullets seated to the cannelure. No way to play with seathing depths, I'm after a hunting load that'll fit in the magazine.
I also tried 76 grains with a Barnes 270 grains TSX and got MOA accuracy on the first try. Bullet seated to the first cannelure, at 3.600" OAL. I did not put it through the chrony yet.
I know I'm over Hodgdon's maximums but my Winchester Model 70 Safari have a very long freebore and I've noticed that Hodgdon's data for the 375 H&H are on the conservative side.. I got absolutely no signs of pressure.
