Just thought I would give a recap on a recent hunt in Spain. I had purchased this hunt in early March at DSC banquet and quickly scrambled to gets some flights and work squared away. In talking with Joelle we made a plan to turn what was a very great deal on a roe deer hunt ($500) and add a beceite ibex for myself and possibly a wild boar for my 11 year old son. This trip went from my wife and I, to now bringing both kids( that got pricey fast). I really wanted to bring a rifle but our flight went through Paris to Barcelona and all parties involved thought that could somehow go wrong so I used my guide Geri’s tikka .270wsm. After making our way to their country home about an hour outside of Barcelona we dropped my wife and daughter for a couple of days of touring we drove another 3 hours towards Valencia where we would stay in a pretty neat hostel for the next few days. The accommodations were sparse but the food was amazing. No menu they just asked what we wanted.
Day 1
We started with a great breakfast and headed out to look for ibex. Wow, absolute beautiful country. We struggled to find a decent male all day but it was not for a lack of boot leather being warn and rubber on the road. They were pretty confident that it would take 2 days at the most, i did notice some despair on the evening hunt as there were just no ibex. As we glassed i remind Geri I did not know the way home not to jump. We went back to the hostel to make plans for the next day while we enjoyed another great Spanish meal.
Day 2
We set out early with plans to drive to other side of the property which was about an hour via the windy Mountain roads. This morning starts to look more promising as we start seeing more and more female ibex. We set out towards some old ruins when Geri stops and point to the very top of the mountain. He said “ a very good billy is feeding in the terrace just beyond the old house”. We ranged it around 360yds, which would be the longest shot i have ever taken living amongst the south east Georgia pines. I laid down on a big flat rock and collected myself. I shoot and he hunches up but still runs to the apex about 40 yds away and is out of site. Now the usual feeling we have all felt sets in. How could I miss? We looked at the video and it was a direct hit. Now we start the journey over and to the top. As we crossed the top there he was!!! We get him caped and and packed up. Interesting enough the vultures were flying in as we got there.
We pack up at the hostel and head towards girl to see if we can get a roe deer at the roisch farm. The farm seemed to be about 2500 acres with wheat everywhere. I can really appreciate how they farm and what it does for the game. I ended up with a nice roe deer that afternoon but we got caught in the worst hail storm i have ever been in about 600 yds away from the vehicle.

We hunted for the next few days for a wild boar for my son never saw the first one. Spain was truly impressive and now has left the itch to go back for another ibex. The people were great and the food was amazing.
