Having just gone through the painful process of renewing all my firearm licenses in SA, and more or less getting them in sync, so that i don’t have to do it yearly for one or two rifles - remember a license is only valid for ten years, then the mess starts again. I realized I haven’t bought a new rifle in two yesrs. Its time again!

My current battery consists of the following

.177 Weihrauch HW97K
.22 Brno Mod 1
.22 Brno Mod 2
.222 Sako L461
.243 Tikka T3 Superc Varmint
.250 Savage FN Supreme
6,5x55 Tikka M695
6,5x57 Brno Mod 22f
7x57 Brno Mod 21
7x57 FN Supreme
.308 Tikka CTR
8x60S Brno ZG47
9,3x62 A-type Mauser
.375 Ruger Alaskan
.450/400 3&1/4” Gibbs
.416 Ruger Alaskanx
16 Br FN S/S
12 Br FN S/S
12 Br Miroku o/u
12 Br Winchester Defender Pump
.44 Mag Ruger Super Blackhawk
9mm Glock 19
9mm Glock 19
9mm SIG P250

Ideas that pop up in my head are as follows:
# Find a Gibbs .450 3&14”, sell a kidney and have two similar doubles

# get hold of a good looking Savage 99 in .250 or .300. Ive always wanted a lever-action rifle, and its handy for pigs over hounds

# .257 Bob. Always fascinated me. Build on a light stock for mountain work on Vaalies, Reedbuck, fallow deer and even black wildebeest

# Find a pre-64 .300 H&H in good nick. Thats another dream come true rifle

# Of late the idea of a dainty 20 gauge to play with spurfoul or a 12 gauge paradox have also kept me awake.

Anyhow. Any input would be welcome. If just sold my little SWB Cruiser for a good price so I need to buy a gun in her memory…

I have that itching problem as well, happens a lot. May I suggest a lever action. Don't know how difficult they are to find in SA, but the .444 Marlin and 45-70 Government are two good ones. Also a good old 30-06, so many bullet choices if you are a reloader.

For five decades the only thing that overcomes my urges to buy a new gun is that I have to save money to pay for my next African hunt!

@Dewald did you get 10 years on your 9mm’s through dedicated sport shooting? I’ve been wondering if I could motivate another pistol through my dedicated hunters, maybe a .22lr, for finishing game.

Sorry, I can't help you. Oh, have I ever mentioned my most searched for photo on Flickr? Here it is...

Sorry but I did lie, a bit. My most searched photos on Flickr is actually this...but I don't count it because I think people are actually searching for different "redheads"...

A long time ago, I listened to one senior comrade, he just bought a 20 gauge, in my opinion, some kind of Belgian, and explained the purchase. "I will follow a bunny with hounds at the age, so that it won't be hard." And after listening, I bought U\O 20 gauge. And I did not notice how completely switched to this gun, and the rest - 12 gauge - are still in the safe.

257 Roberts is a neat little cartridge. But, for a lever action a 30-30 would be a good addition

This bird - the red-headed diver - has the nickname "boxer" because he holds a punch well. I tried to get it when I was hunting in the Caspian, but it didn't work out - their flocks rush fast.

Go for the 450NE double.

A nice clean browning double auto shotgun, any browning a5.i just ordered a new one with wood furniture. the quick load is like electric windows.any mint pre64 model 70.a takedown savage 99 in 22 high power.maybe a 70 series colt national match 1911

I like the pre64 M70 300H&H idea and while your current collection is very nice you have no old M70s. That's just unacceptable!

I didn't see a BPE double on your inventory. I think you should add one and I just happen to have one I'd part with......

You don't need to buy a gun, you need to open a store--just joking...do recommend the 300 over the 250 for the Savage. Rotary magazine is nice--sort of a Mannlicher Schoenauer for a lever gun!

I'll throw a vote to the .257 Bob. I have one on a Rem 700 chassis and a Ruger #1. It's a sweet cartridge that'll motor 'em right out there with almost NO recoil. It's the one caliber I could never get rid of for use here in The States. I'll load up some 75 grainers for coyotes and such...and then slip in some 117's for use on mid-sized game. I LOVE THAT OLD DOLL OF A CARTRIDGE! And you can always make brass from 7mm Mauser stock if you had too. And both of mine shoot LIGHTS OUT three shot groups!

Hi Jon,
I saw your post for the .500 NE cases. Are these all brass or are they nickel plated? Hard for me to tell... sorry.
Thanks,
