Hyena attacks are horrific of course...just like a shark attack or a bear mauling. I will say that hyenas are not properly understood or respected. They are not cowards...huh, not hardly. They are not 2nd class citizens of the African underworld. They hunt their own live game many times and in fact, lions try to steal from them. It says something that the lion and the hyena are mortal enemies and one day the lions win...the next day the hyenas might win. They are powerful, intelligent creatures that are not well understood. They also serve a vital purpose and clean up a lot of what would otherwise be a real mess in Africa.

The Zulus call him impisi...in Zim, they call him sisi...the wolf...the cleaner...the one who makes things orderly. Africa would not be the same without him.

I ran into some hyena a couple of times last week and they just wreak power! Especially in their jaws and front quarters. They appear much larger than what you think by only seeing them on TV. We got some pretty good pictures of one young one but the biggest stayed just out of good camera range.
Looking to put a hunt together for them in ‘27
