Good day everybody,
I'm wondering what the best place to go and what it would cost for a family of six to do a hunting trip in Africa. Kids are 16, 14, 13 and 13 in age. I'm certainly not against it but I don't really care a lot about Trophy animals or any particular species, I'm more interested in everybody getting a chance at a few animals. I'm not interested in sleeping on the ground, but I really don't want a high price tag for 5 star treatment, somewhere in the middle is better for me. Safety is obviously important, so none of the dangerous countries. Anybody have any suggestions?

Namibia, South Africa, Botswana, Zambia have AH Outfitters that can offer what you are after.
Enjoy planning your family adventure.

Hi Damon. Marius at @KMG Hunting Safaris is always a winner. He will always deliver and put your needs and family needs up front. Great guy to deal with and will go out of his way to assist his clients. They are based in South Africa.
You can contact him anytime for assistance and info needed. There a many hunting reports of KMG Hunting Safaris on this site.
Planning your Safari is half the fun of the whole trip, especially when you get your whole family involved.
Best of luck with your decision.

South Africa offers a fairly safe environment for family trips (as does Namibia and Botswana).

Most outfitters, including ourselves, are geared and able to host families.

You are most welcome to contact me, or any of the sponsors on here, and I can put a package together for you that fill fit your budget and hopefully meet and exceed expectations.

Kind regards James

Welcome to the site and thanks for the request. I would definitely be able to assist. Our primary base in Limpopo is 85,000 + acres (contiguous land) and is home to the entire big 5 thereby providing a truly authentic African safari experience to dangerous and plainsgame hunters alike.

Your family will love it…. And so will you! Feel free to give me a shout if you so choose, we are a budget friendly safari company yet our focus remains on quality.

My very best always
Jaco Strauss

@damonjohnson ,
My family and I have to both Namibia and South Africa and find Namibia to feel much safer. Give Phillip a call at Khomas Highland Safari. He is a sponsor here and runs a great operation. If you go to South Africa Kruger is amazing. We were going to visit it one day. My wife ditched all the other side trips planned and we spent 3 days in Kruger. Good luck and feel free to PM.

@damonjohnson welcome aboard!

Take a look at @GAME 4 AFRICA SAFARIS. I have hunted twice with Wik, Colin and the crew and think it's exactly what you are looking for and also at a really good price. It's a great value and it's real hunting. There are lots of hunt reports for @GAME 4 AFRICA SAFARIS as many members here have hunted with them.

@damonjohnson welcome to the site. There are many great outfits on here.

We as a family run operation with kids the same age as you know exactly what is needed to introduce them to hunting and our lodge is exactly what you are refering to. It will be your home away from home. Please feel free to contact me via email at gerrit@ehw.co.za or via the PM option on the site. And become part of the @Bos en Dal SAFARIS family

My personal best
Gerrit

FWIW @damonjohnson , my 16 year old just took her first big game animal (never hunted before in her life) with Gerrit @Bos en Dal SAFARIS in July..

We couldn't have asked for a better experience.. Gerrit understood what we wanted wasn't necessarily a "trophy" first animal (bigger/older is always nice..but..).. what we wanted was a perfect shot opportunity (assure her of success on her very first attempt).. he was incredibly patient, acted as a wonderful mentor and coach.. and made things happen for her...

Now I find myself having to buy another rifle, another set of binos, some additional hunting clothes, and having to plan on additional plane tickets, day rates, and trophy fees on all future South Africa hunts, as she is officially addicted and insists she must have all of her own kit now, and accompany us on all future safaris lol... (pretty wonderful thing that I am happy to invest in... :) )...

She also insists that she must only hunt with Gerrit and Francois in the future lol... (she loves both of those guys)..

We are also a family run operation and accommodate several family safaris every year.
We only book one group at a time so you have the whole lodge for your exclusive use.
Plenty of plains game.
E-mail us for more info and I will make you a good deal.

Sincerely
Hans de Klerk

My suggestion is Nick Bowker Hunting and Motsomi Safaris. Both great Outfits and good with families.

I would recommend Mof Venter owner and PH with of Adansonia Safaris in Limpopo, RSA.

Mof could definitely show your entire family a great time in addition to providing great hunting.

I hunted with him in 2007 and have a friend hunting with him right now.

Mof's daughter (who was around 6 or 7 at the time) went with us on several hunts and was a constant pleasure to be around.

Mof also arranged for my wife and I to visit several neat wildlife preserves, where we saw some very neat things (white lion breeding preserve, opportunity to pet and even ride a zebra, beautiful sights, great food, you name it). He would have arranged for us to go fishing, but we opted not to since the species available within a reasonable drive were about the same as we have in Georgia)

+1 for James.
My Father and I hunted with him last year and had a great time. I killed an amazing Buffalo after following their tracks around for several days with James. I wouldn't hesitate to hunt with James again, and almost gave him another short notice call this year before hunting in Namibia. The drive from Jburg is only a couple hours south. I know my dad, if he goes back wants to hunt with him again.

Another great outfitter to hunt with is Thandeka Safaris in the Kalahari, much longer drive from JBurg.

Lots of good recommendations here guys, thank you very much for the input. I've been busy and haven't had a chance to contact anybody yet, but I will soon. Thanks again.
