PALM BEACH, Fla. -- The US Secret Service found a "suspicious" hunting stand within sight of the Air Force One landing zone ahead of the president's arrival in Florida over the weekend, FBI Director Kash Patel said, adding no one was at the stand.
@crossfire3006: Unless the Secrete Service has some Hunters - could certainly have been a legitimate Hunting Stand….but they need to react with caution & suspicion regardless.
While I’ve never deer hunted close to government property or an airport - if there was land there that I got permission to hunt on, I could see getting into that situation — how would anyone know where or when AIR FORCE ONE is gonna land??
Years ago, only a few weeks after 9/11, I went sea duck hunting in NJ about a mile off shore in Sandy Hook Bay. I had anchored my boat and set up decoys in the dark, close to a mile away from a Navy Pier. There was heavy fog and at sunrise and as the first ducks flew in - I shot an Old Squaw. As my dog was retrieving the bird I noticed a small Navy boat (800 yrds away) coming towards me at high speed, followed closely by another 30 foot boat with armed National Guard on board. I figured they weren’t coming out to duck hunt so I unloaded my Benelli, action open, laid gun across bow of my camo duck boat and stood up - arms out stretched with hands open. They stopped their boats just outside my decoys (75 feet off my boat) and even though it wasn’t needed - they used a loud speaker to inform me “You are trespassing in restricted waters - do you see those white buoys? I replied “I see them now, as the fog is lifting” They had their guns at the ready but were Not pointing them at me. I held up the dead duck and replied “I’m Duck Hunting” and they replied “You need to leave NOW” and I said I would pick up and go another 1/2 mile East as fast as I can. Then one of the Navy guys yelled out “Hell, we thought you were Bin Laden man !” They were nice about it - they probably could’ve confiscated my boat & gun if they wanted to.

I don't know the area at the Fl airport, but the Nashville airport has some huge bucks on it. The area is no hunting, but people do trespass and hunt on it.

Look on Google Maps at PBI airport. Zero deer woods anywhere near let alone a small patch. That stand was definitely not for a deer hunter.

I read it was in the central reservation ("median strip" for you 'muricans) So most unlikely for hunting. Of course it could just have been some sort of tree-house built by kids?

I think 98% of the deer hunters in Fl come up to SC to lease land, at least it seems that way.

Or Georgia! Seems like they are buying a lot of land around here.

I have no idea the shipping cost from here to Costa Rica. I can do my research on shipping and get back with you later today.

I didn't see your request re: ship co’s. My last shipment was 2023. Quotes from SBS Logistics ($1,198), Badger Cargo ($1,184 - used them) & AHG Trophy Shippers ($1,746). AHG owner's an asshole so wouldn't have used him anyway. Eastern Cape - Houston, TX, so your mileage may vary. NEVER use Karl Human Taxidermy aka Wild Africa Taxidermy on Eastern Cape. Trophies arrived shattered with no padding/packing material.
