Wayne Pacelle, chief executive of the Humane Society of the United States, resigned Feb. 2 after allegations were made against him by several employees.
According to an article by the New York Times, the claims against Pacelle resulted in HSUS commissioning a law firm in Washington, D.C. to conduct an internal investigation into allegations of workplace misconduct by the CEO.
“The executive, Wayne Pacelle, who was the face of the Humane Society for more than a decade, had held onto support from a majority of the group’s board, which voted on Thursday to immediately end an investigation into his behavior,” the newspaper reported.
Employees and supporters of HSUS condemned the boards’ action, and called for Pacelle’s resignation. Friday afternoon, Pacelle complied with the demands and resigned his position.
