I was in the mood tonight to watch some buffalo hunting so I pulled up YouTube. First video, it was clear the guy had no familiarity with his double. His PH was telling him to reload and the guy managed to open it eventually, across his body, facing 90 degrees to the target area, fumbling around basically trying to figure out how to reload it. "Good lord, what the hell is this guy thinking?!!" Next video another guy watched a buffalo stand perfect broadside at no more than 25 yards for at least 15 seconds. I mean perfectly still. "what are you waiting for?!!!" Watched it turn and face him, then stood perfectly still and he didn't shoot. "For F***s sake, shoot the damn thing already!" Finally when it started charging him, he took the shot. And no, it wasn't a MS video. Then I watched a couple shoot a bull out of a herd, decent shot, no complaints. Buffalo down. They walked straight up to it from the front with no evidence of realizing that the hunt ain't over until you've poked him in the eye. Didn't circle around and approach him from behind, didn't have the rifles at low ready. Just nothing. Other videos where there is plenty of time for a shot and I have no idea what the guy was thinking- just stood there watching. 3-5 days tracking an animal that could have been shot straight off before lunch on day one. Or the afternoon. Or day 2. Etc. I suppose at least those guys are getting their money's worth.
These are the people who decided to post the videos for the world to see. I can't imagine what is out there where people are at least smart enough to not post. My hat's off to all the PHs out there. If I had to deal with these people, there wouldn't be enough sundowners in the world to take the edge off at the end of the day.
