Tagged this small one the last week of the season. Donated him to the PA hunter food bank program. Butchers grind up the meat in to five pound blocks of burger.
Finally got in some birds closing weekend. We’ve had so much water and flooded fields birds have been really scattered and hunting has been rough. @BJONES and I hit one more pond this last morning of our season and spanked’em. Good one to end on.
My son and I on alaska diy caribou trip in august.
Followed up with meat bucks with the season that just ended here in Colorado this evening. Far less than normal results but filled 2 of 4 tags.
Every year in my family it falls on my shoulders to get our draw applications in for everyone. That includes myself, my wife, my brother and my dad. My father turned 77 this past April and when I asked if he wanted me to enter him for any draw he said “I’d sure like to shoot another moose before I die.” Sure enough when the results came out in July he was the only one to draw a tag! Fast forward to October 15 and he headed out to get his moose. He wasn’t interested in finding a big bull, he wanted a young meat moose and a few hours later we found one and his old Savage 99 in .308 got another notch on it.
Everything went too smoothly I guess because as we were trying to unload the moose Dad pulled my skinning pole down onto the back of the cab of my truck
Oh well. I was still proud of the old boy. I told him that he still needs to stick around for another couple moose!
I finally scored, and shot this guy on Sun. He is a good deer for the area I was hunting at. Deer around where I live usually grow much larger. This far is about 100 miles SE of me.
Nugget here. A guide gave me the nickname as I looked similar to Nugent at the time. Hunting for over 50 years yet I am new to hunting in another country and its inherent game species. I plan to do archery. I have not yet ruled out the long iron as a tag-along for a stalk. I am still deciding on a short list of game. Not a marksman but better than average with powder and string.
