I have come into the possession of one of the most Historical Books and letters ever regarding African Safaris. It is James L Clark's "Trails of the Hunted" , 1929 : Published by Chatto & Windus (London). The book itself is significant, but this copy came directly from the Library of Mr. Berry Brooks. Yes, of the famous Brooks family Safari in 1947. Mr. Clark went on Safari in late 1909 and wrote this book from his adventures. He also went to Africa in 1908 to help President Theodore Roosevelt prepare for his famous Safari of 1910. The letter that authenticates this is below. It is from Mr. Clark's sister Sally to the Berry Family in advance and anticipation of their Safari to take place in 1947. She is actually advising them and inviting them to visit them in NY prior to their departure. The Brooks likely used this ACTUAL copy to prepare themselves for what to expect. There was nothing else, I am aware of, written at the time. I AM ENTERTAINING SERIOUS OFFERS.

How much does something like this book cost? Want to make sure I am not out of my range before I would even place an offer.

The book alone is valued at about $125.00 at the high end for a first edition. The problem you will have is determining the value of the letter and the book as it is associated with it. Berry Brooks and family were a very prominent family in Memphis. The safari he undertook was major news in its day. His animal mounts are still in the Safari Room of the Pink Palace Museum. If you can find a website of a "letters of Africa" collector, or something like it, you will probably find the overall value from a true collector. True collectors in any field usually have very deep pockets Good Luck!
