Hi,
I’ve been lurking for a while, reading, learning and picking up on things. Thought it was time to introduce myself.

I live in the UK and have been clay shooting for most of my adult life. More recently getting into deer stalking and rifles.

Looking at driven boar hunt in Europe later this year, with the hope of getting over to one of the African countries in a few years time.

I’m thinking at a potential 3/4 gun battery for UK, Europe and Africa hunting.

Starting with a 308/30.06 for general UK hunting rifle, a 9.3x62 as a boar gun for Europe. Adding a 375 H&H a year or so before my first African safari to allow time to practice shooting that calibre, both on and off sticks.

cheers

Welcome to the posting side.
Enjoy your time here.

Giday rohroh and welcome to the A H forums.

:S Welcome:

Welcome to AH rohroh!

Hello rohroh, welcome to AH. I have just bought a 30-06 for my African PG too.

Welcome from another UK member. I have a 30-06 that I have used on everything from roe to kudu. I went through the same thought process as you and have ended up with a 30-06, a 22 Hornet and a 375 H and H.

I was originally going to get a 9.3x62 but when I found out that the 9.3 and .375 moderators currently available in the UK are roughly the same weight, I went with the 375, to give more flexibility.

I am happy that the 30-06 will do the job on boar.

Welcome on board from another Brit… The 9.3x62 and .375 are quite similar. Have you considered spreading out a bit further and going up to a .416 or .404 instead of the .375 or staying with the .375 and going bigger to the .458s?? Just a thought…

That was my thought, I had my choice narrowed down to 6.5x55, 9.3x62 and .404 or 30-06 and .375. I went for the latter, mainly as it was the less costly option.

Welcome to the forum.
You have precisely hit my inventory, and exact purpose of each.
If I may add - get a 22lr on the list for pest cotrol, and cheap training.

Welcome to AH!

Hello rohroh,

Khomas Highland Hunting Safaris of Namibia, welcomes you to the greatest forum on earth.

If you have a .30-06 and a .375 H&H, you are well prepared for tramping the earth, in grand style for hunting big game.
Yours Truly has done a bit of shooting with those two cartridges in North America, as well as Africa.
They are both, two peachy calibers for sure.

When you have a spare moment, take a peek into our Khomas Safari web site.

Cheers,
Velo Dog.

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.
